I was about to post the same thing before I read your post, It doesn't look like they done a Browny with him.

The 10 Games he won In a row made him look like he was farting Rainbows.

It really Is beggars belief at this point.

You had Brown as coach who wanted to be everyone's friend and not hurt anyone's feelings at one extreme.

Then you have AOB who as Junior pointed out Is "Unpleasant and Intimidating" at the other extreme.

And both realistically have the had the club under performing.

Before anyone says It, no getting to the first week of finals doesn't count as the club performing.

So with that being said, It leaves the us with the players and their attitude.

It Is funny how we don't have players scrambling for the door when things get tough, they just stick It out knowing they are going to get paid and their spot really Isn't under threat from the lower grades.

Unless they actually want to win a Premiership In their career at some point.
 
When KP realises being here is now going to cost him rep jerseys we will probably start to see players looking for the door

Yes can't see Friz wanting to stick around for another twelve months . Not going to win a premiership here any time soon . Top up your super with a couple of years in super league
 
I went to a function where he was the guest speaker at Merewether Surf House and he bagged the club saying it was the worst situation he had ever found himself in. He said the club environment was really bad and that no one seemed to care whether they won or lost. He also said that he hired Willie Mason at he end of his career and he was our most passionate player.
 
So that Tiger Town doco. The biggest take out from that was how much of a lone voice Madge was. It was basically his voice for 8 hours or whatever. Adam Douhei tried to support him but it was mainly documenting how Madge lost the changeroom.

Leadership groups are so important. Madge can coach, he won a comp at South's with Sam Burgess and John Sutton driving standards home gor him.

I think Bellamy got lucky in some ways that Cameron Smith particularly, along with Cronk and Slater came through as he found his coaching feet. From the sound of it, Smith used to temper Bellamy's, well, temper. When Bellyache would get too emotional Smith would take the **** and defuse the situation. Then it became Smith, Slater and Cronk driving standards on the field and in training. Players answered to them, they were the ones being critical in video sessions. I you deviated from the game plan, Smith would want to know why you had undone the work they had put in over a 15 minute period setting up a target for a hero play. It meant that the players were shaded somewhat from Bellamy's emotions, allowing him to set standards, communicate these to the leadership group and they'd all be on the same page communicating them to the wider group. In some ways the leadership group may have allowed Bellamy to survive in a way Madge didn't at the tigers. A strong leadership group is now at the forefront of Melbourne's strategy, even though that trio of great leaders has moved on.

So what is the leadership group at Newcastle? KP isn't a student of the game like the Melbourne trio. I think he is very passionate and knows his game a whole lot better now, but I don't think he is one to demand standards out of others. Friz and the Safs are noted to be very quiet. Leo was added to the leadership group this year and strikes me as someone who could be a steely eyed standard setter as he matures. Hastings is emotional and no longer a rusted on first grade member. Gags is super nice from the sound of things. For mine it needs to start with KP. He needs to realise that anything he achieves at newcastle is through the guys he plays with, and to expect better from them. Thompson can be that guy driving forward standards one day, but out side of that I don't see who is going to take the heat off any coach we have. Obi having players scared of him smacks of Tiger town for mine.

You’re not wrong mate. Similar thing at Penrith. Nathan Cleary leads the way with their video work etc in conjunction with Yeo and the other spine guys. Other guys are scared ****less not to put in in training when Fisher-Harris is there to give them the death stare. Luai and To’o along with a few other guys bring constant energy and good vibes. In all the behind the scenes footage of those Penrith guys they look like they’d all die for each other tbh.

Players need to be empowered, but they also need to be the kinds of blokes who drive standards with that empowerment. It’s a tough thing to find.

This is why Jared Waerea-Hargreaves has continued to play on long after he probably should have retired, for example. The Roosters haven’t been able to find the kind of character it would actually take to replace him. And he doesn’t want to let his club down.

Excellent points completely agree.

I remember Cameron Smith one time talking about their relationship and he even said to Craig “sometimes I’m not sure if you made us, or we made you” which I thought was very interesting.

Either way, clearly they aren’t what they are without each other.
