I could understand why Pete Matau’tia would be retiring, but Sione? He’s 27. Unless he’s fallen out of love with the game…

His wife wants to come back to Australia so unless an nrl club picks him up he’s going to be playing in the real nrl

Sione and Pete both have ESL contracts for next year - Sione for 2 more years I think - so 2026 is the earliest they could all join up in the real NRL

In the article it stated that because the players mentioned were cheap, 2025 club will be under cap pressure (again). Think this is where all this talk is leading from Dsaf price and Best. Might have to lose one of them to keep promising talent. Likes of Hetherington and Elliot might need to be moved on to help out. Disappointing club seems to find themselves here on a consistent basis.

Guess this is why Parr stated when he took over that they’ll be focusing on local recruitment. Build from within and cost saving. They’ll need to have $$ available for the likes of Votano so they don’t get swooped on.

jeez I'd love to know where the cap has gone. Mind blowing when you look at the Broncos or Roosters as a comparison. The Panthers are losing players at a great rate but have a pathways system to replace them.
Short answer, Broncos and Roosters are cheating. Especially the Broncos in recent years. I've got a little conspiracy theory, that's why Ben Ikin left the Broncos, getting pinched for cheating the cap as the CEO is a career ender particularly for person who's public image is built on strong ethical standards.

It's always hilarious when clubs like those are accused of cheating while zero evidence is provided.

While zero evidence is provided 😭

'Takes one look at the Broncos top 20, opens calculator app on IPhone, does simple math, math doesn't even come close to working,

I apologise for not having the audited financials to publish here for your review to evidence my claim.

square peg doesn't fit into a round hole. The decline of critical think ability in the 21st century is alarming.

What amazes me more is the mass insane delusion that is the belief in a sky daddy with zero evidence, and using a computer to denounce science with planes flying overhead.

Eh, Broncos are mostly a bunch of young kids coming up, they got a spoon not that long ago. They lost TPG, they lost Fifita, they are losing Farnsworth and Flegler next year.

Sure Reynolds and Hass is on big coin, even Walsh I don't think would be on that much, Mam and Walters would not be on too much.

Does anyone actually believe the Roosters are fully compliant? Legit wasn't aware there were people who're actually that gullible.
I've not seen such a vastly obvious circumvention of the cap since the Storm scandal. Then again it is possible that most of their players over the last few years have signed for 50% of their worth, but I highly doubt it.

The Rorters success is win the propaganda battle through friendly Fox staff. Reports of Dom Young signing for big money were quickly corrected and the story died a quiet death.

All heil "Robbo" the supercoach.

everyone knows, and it's public knowledge, that both the Broncos and Roosters can max out 3rd party deals, and some 3rd party deals go on years after players finish playing.
Most clubs struggle for 3rd party deals, particularly the Knights.
throw the Storm in there. "Officially" they're always right up there in 3rd party deals.

“The market isn’t as big as people think,” he said. “It only makes up about 3% of the total cap, down from 5.5% in 2018”

In 2019 the Roosters recorded only $69,000 in third-party agreements but stars such as Cronk and James Tedesco benefited from whole game sponsorships not included in the team-by-team breakdown.

Again the Storm led the competition in 2019 for third-party agreements with the Broncos ($350,000), Panthers ($233,000), Sharks ($212,000) and Rabbitohs ($199,000) not far behind.

This is groundbreaking stuff. How are you not straight on the phone to salary cap auditors immediately?! This is news they shouldn't wait to hear. I can't believe all they've been missing this whole time is a simple calculator!
