Disagree. No sport should regulate the media that covers it. That said, I don't think they need to. Most people know Weirdler makes s**t up, same as Fox League. Their antagonism and speculation damages only themselves.
 
The point is that it’s a conflict of interest, Gus trying to destabilise other clubs.

If this was the NBA, he wouldn’t be allowed to have the media job, and also if he used his platform as a GM to spread baseless innuendo he would be constantly under investigation for breaking anti-tampering rules & the Dogs would be being fined and stripped of draft picks.

It just goes to show what an amateurish, unserious competition the NRL is, from an administrative perspective.

It doesn't defame the club. Due to its size, the club can't be legally defamed anyway. All it does is destroys a reporter's credibility if they keep concocting stories. Eventually, their audience dries up.

The speculation creates uncertainty amongst the players and fans and as a result damages the club.

It is irresponsible journalism.
 
Does anyone take anything Weidler says seriously though?
The guy has been a mouthpiece for ******s like Khoder Nasser, Hamish McLennan and Gus for so long I’d doubt the truth of anything that he writes.

Who cares though? It's gutter journalism. Players and fans just need to see it for what it is: trash. Our club did exactly what it should have done when rumours like that surface, which is to sit the players down and set the record straight with them.

I do, the story was baseless. It has been around now for a while and it took Tooheys News yesterday to put it to bed. You just have to look at all the posts on here about it. It was definitely not helpful to our struggling team and disheartening to fans like me.

True. If any media outlet cared for credibility they’d hire actual journalists with credibility and self respect instead of this cheap turd like tabloid trash that seems to be the norm across the board now.

I like listening to the calling on ABC grandstand. I absolutely hate subscribing to Murdoch’s trash and having to sign into the stupid bastard always when I’m in a hurry too. Starts me off in a fowl mood and then soon as there’s a dropped ball or the ref starts blowing the whistle at anything that moves I feel like throwing my fist through the telly.

They could also feed some tidbits to journalists who are friendly to the club, so as to control the narrative somewhat. No doubt Toohey has reaped the benefit of that relationship for some time, although the club seems to have plugged those leaks these days.

Talks about the recent rumours and wonders if they are the usual NRL rubbish rumours or if someone is trying to destabilise the place.

Says Georgia Roach has not been named as part of the squad because she is caught up in some sort of visa issue.

Says the club is keen to get Frizz signed but he has offers from 3 other clubs - Canberra the biggest threat.

Says Hetherington had an offer to join another club immediately but chose to stay. Toohey doubts the club would have stood in his way if he wanted to leave.

Club has decided not to try for Berrell because of the good form of Crossland, Mann returning, and also because Riley Jones looks capable of an NRL debut this year. We have a spot to fill by August 1st.
 
Hetherington is under contract for 2 more year, how does he have an offer from another club? Either that club needs to be sanctioned or we tried to shop the guy around.

Perhaps we were trying to shop a few players around and some clowns assumed it was d saf and best when realy its Hetherington and Tuala or something.
