2022-2023 Summer of Cricket

Michael Hussey?
Excellent guess, those stats are Michael Hussey’s.

Yeah sorry guys....

I had a whole other paragraph I originally had in that post about how I thought Mike Hussey should also have possibly been in that elite group Billy flagged in his post as well, based on his incredible stats early in his test career that I obviously deleted when I cut and pasted the info I found...but at 1.00 AM on my phone, I obviously pasted over that crucial little piece of detail before I hit the 'post reply' button.....good pick up Battler and Lefty :brickwall:

3000 runs at average 62.5 to Marnus.
Commentators saying only Bradman got to 3000 in less innings.

Bradman did it in 33 innings, Labuschagne and Sir Everton Weekes did it in 51 innings.

Yeah one thing I keep forgetting about Smudge is how slow his start was, cos he was a leg spinning all rounder at first. Imagine his career record if they worked out he should be specialist bat right from the beginning. Marnus too was groomed to be an all rounder I think.

I’m enjoying some excellent bowling by Boland, Starc, Nesser and Lyon. Boland’s triple wicket maiden over last night was brilliant. Australia has plenty of bowling depth at present. We are not missing Hazelwood at all.

The win by Australia is our largest winning margin by runs (419) over the West Indies ever.

The days of the invincible Windies are a distant memory now.

It’s sad to see the decline, they were so strong but beaten by what I regard as a not so strong Aussie side
Warner’s form is disappointing. But we have 2 players averaging over 60 at present, Labuschagne is the best batsman in the world and Smith is the second best, proven performers in Khawaja and Head. And a developing all rounder in Green.

We have a very talented bowling line up with plenty of depth.

Very have a capable wicket keeper who is developing as a test batsman.

Yes, we look good at the moment, but South Africa will present as a far more difficult opponent.
Looking forward to see what happens in the next tests against a credible opposition.

This South African side isn’t like previous ones. They have a strong bowling lineup as usual, Rabada in particular is awesome and Jansen looks like a star in the making, but they don’t have a single batter who averages 40 or above…

The South African test series will be the acid test for Australia. The West Indian test series was always going to be a ‘warm up’ for the South African series.

The South African batsmen are going to be under extreme pressure against our bowling attack, we don’t have a weak link.

Graeme Smith, Hashim Amla, Jacques Kallis & AB de Villiers all having their careers line up to a pretty decent extent masked masked how bad their batting stocks are in first class cricket over there.

People blame the quota system due to their racist agendas but I reckon the real reason is mostly that the money in playing tests for the Saffas is ****house, Quinton de Kock retiring from tests to “spend more time with family” but staying on as a globetrotting limited overs specialist + T20 mercenary should tell you a lot.

If you’re a long-form specialist and you have any claim for English citizenship, you’d be insane not to go to England, because the money is 10-20 times better. Even the NZ central contracts are better than the South Africa ones.

Heading down to the pink day for the sydney test, any reccomendations on the best/most reasonable place to get a nights accomadation in and around the SCG area?

I haven't done it for a decade or so, but I used to stay in one of the cheap hotels around central station. The SCG is only about a 20 minute walk away and you can have a wander around and find a good place to eat and get up in the morning and get to the train quick.
