2023 Recruitment & Retention Thread

Pretty sure the roosters didn't say no to the RTS question. They just offered another psychobabble comment of something like "that doesn't makes sense, we already have 4 x fullbacks".
We all know Uncle Nick's roosters far better than that. Sombrero time!

'We've already got 4 fullbacks'
Yea, isn't that the point, because 3 of them already aren't playing fullback, are they Nick?

Tbh, I like it. He's a winner and it's why the Roosters are winners. Culture starts at the top

I'd really like to see us get some more value in the forwards. Guys like Eddie blacker, Spencer Leniu and Emre Guler all interest me. We definitely have a pretty big hole at 7, but not much point throwing big $$$ at a dud on a long contract. Rather have Clifford at 7 than pay an extra $750k to have Brooks there. Even guys like Sam Williams from the Raiders could fill the gap for a year. Guys like Paul alomoti off contract not getting a crack anywhere.

Look at Penrith when Cleary is out. They still smash teams. It's not all about the 7.

It’s definitely not all the 7 but having a ball playing lock of the calibre of Yeo is a huge help there. They’d need Cleary more if Yeo was out for an extended period.

Sportsbet has the Knights in equal 14th place with the Warriors in the betting market for next year’s premiership at $51 in front on only the Tigers and Dolphins.

Do we think that is the plan of the Knights to release Klem to free up cap space for a half and fullback?

I'm of the same opinion, it would suck to lose Klem, but if it gives us the opportunity to get a couple of good spine players then it should be done. The Safs will have to step up, which we know they have done before. That leaves us with, Leo Thompson, Mat Croker, Jirah Momoisea, and Jack Hetherington for the front row options.

Jirah signed with Eels a while ago

I would target spencer lenu, something will have ti give at Penrith and he would add some grunt to our pack.

Not sure if this was mentioned elsewhere.

Klemmer has toured the West Tigers facilities and looking to sign there from next season.

Would be great to free up his salary cap space, but his go forward is going to be hard to replace.

Story source was Micheal Chammas of SMH.

It was reported months ago that they told Klem he won't be signed beyond next year.

I think we'll keep Klem for 2023 rather than pay some of his contract to play elsewhere, but if he can get a 3 year contract and it won't cost us any salary cap money, we'd release him and use the big dollars freed up to sign a younger, smaller and more mobile forward.
