Bradman Best discussion

Best is still young enough to play Fleg.
Why would we get rid of him?
Develop him for God sake!

We can't spend our full cap now. More money in the cap isn't going to help. Dolphins are looking for centres and can't get any.

You can't coach a player that's always injured and sitting on the sidelines he just might be one those unlucky guys that showed a lot of talent but just can't stay on the field his defence is terrible but he is still young and over time should improve but if you play 3 games and then out for 4 it's hard to get any consistency I would still have him next year

Best is a brilliant YOUNG centre. He just needs to get injury free for a consecutive period of time in order to get some quality games under his belt. He needs to be coached correctly, let him play what he & the halves see in front of them, not reruns of other teams set plays all the mundane time. Other teams pre-match defensive homework is nailing us to a tee.
He hasn't been the same since pearce saw & utilised him for what he's very good at, speed & power, predominantly with pearce going to the line and thus using Bradman, & others, in the best way they see fit with what's playing out in front of them (e.g.; recent dogs form). If what you're doing consistently isn't working, change it up.
Just my personal opinion(s), apologies in advance to those that differ from this view!

I mean I'm inclined to agree with CBM on this one. He looked great in his first year, he was even mentioned a couple of times in the media as a possible future Origin player. Sure, injuries haven't helped him, but he's now at a stage where if there was a decent replacement he wouldn't make first grade. His defence is shocking and he creates next to nothing in attack anymore (admittedly not completely his fault with the quality of ball he gets). Based on his suspension his attitude stinks. This isn't just second year syndrome, he's fallen off a cliff.

He's looking more and more like Junior Sa'u mark 2 to me, but Sa'u always gave 100% and didn't have an ego.

Average running metres per game:

2020: 153
2021: 121
2022: 106

Missed tackles per game:

2020: 1.5
2021: 1.7
2022: 2.5

Try assists per game:

2020: 0.36
2021: 0.35
2022: 0.28

Involvement and effectiveness is way down

In fairness he has had injuries all through those years so hardly at peak.

Secondly, we aren't using him effectively at all. You can't point to a centre and go that guy sux unless he is given the opportunities to shine and he isn't getting them.

Move him to a decent side and he looks much better and his stats go up if he can get clear of injuries.

He has good instincts and a power running game. You don't unlearn that.

Just another example of a quality player being squandered by our rubbish club.

Working on a browser plug in which replaces every CBM post with one of two gifs:

When he’s talking about the Cowboys: https://media1.giphy.com/media/cMUJ...07a4ea2ceb08d8dfdb3e53850&rid=giphy.webp&ct=g

When he’s talking about any player on any other team (who, by virtue of not being a Cowboy, is a blight on the game): https://media4.giphy.com/media/M95Z...74a63c8adfb9073097453ea4d&rid=giphy.webp&ct=g

I’ll let you all know when it’s finished, HMU if you’re interested. 😉

James could load this on to the forum as standard.

You could be talking about a young James Tedesco

I mean, Tedesco is kind of a cautionary tale for us. Obviously he went better than Bradman, but he was overlooked for Origin a bunch of times at the Tigers when he shouldn’t have been, and he wasn’t even close to being seen as the consensus best #1 in the game (even though he definitely was) until he was at the Roosters.

What was the difference? Did he really improve that much as a player, or did he go from a team with a bad forward pack where he was playing with no space, to one which is always on the front foot and getting him quality ball?

Think Best is seriously overrated on here. I expected him to break out last year but time and time again he lets you down with either his poor form or injuries.

The ‘potential’ he has is just a myth at this stage. Got by on sheer size in juniors but can’t do it against the men and he has no football talent in him.
Don't agree at all. Yeah sure he hasn't lived up to potential. But as many people have pointed out we aren't getting him the right ball. Our backline and offence is crap. We all know that. The few glimpses of a good backline movement and Bradman has done well. I've also seen him do some classy individual plays.

The talk of him potentially leaving the club is ludicrous. And it's comments like above that don't help. He's a good player that needs some more time but the potential is more than there.

If he went of to another club with a half decent halves and backline he would be killing it.

He's an elite athlete - big, strong and fast. But lacks agility, isn't a great defender at centre, and doesn't appear to have the best footy IQ.

Seems to me like he should either be playing on the wing - focus on good yardage carries and finishing, or move into the second row and run Fitz's lines at some small improvement. Really not sure why the club pegged this kid as a centre.

Thought you were talking about Sione in the first paragraph until I saw the big part.

I'd love to see him turn it around bit I think he's been figured out to an extent, and I don't really think he's got the body type to make a top class centre. At this stage I'm ambivalent about whether we keep him or not. The question as always is who would we replace him with ... will be interesting to see how Mapapalangi goes this week ...

Yeah I think the problem lies with his longevity. Can't string more then 4-5 games together, that along with halves who dunno the blokes next to them names. All turns into a ****show pretty quick.

In most teams the right centre records fewer try involvements and has a worse tackle efficiency %. Most sides attack better on the left than the right. I don’t think the numbers mean much in a vacuum.

I reckon if you had them swap sides, Gagai would have scored + assisted in more tries. Definitely wouldn’t have bombed some of the opportunities Bradman has.

I think the truth is somewhere in the middle with Bradman in terms of how he’s going. I think we don’t utilise him well enough, don’t create enough space for him, but also I don’t think he’s very smart or naturally good at reading the game, so it’s probably at least a little bit his fault. I also suspect he’s taken his eye off the ball a bit with his physical prep - eg, a couple of the times he’s been held up over the line this year beggar belief given his size and strength, and reek of him cutting corners a bit in the gym - I reckon his core strength and leg drive isn’t what it was two years ago and not a coincidence that stuff involves the hardest and most boring part of working out.
