Toohey's News

Unless contracts change Garret Smith, Christian Ma’anaima, the new guy from Manly Krystan Mapapalangi would be our 3 development currently contracted for next year.
Then there is Dan Ticehurst who was rumoured to have a development deal but was never listed, then guys like Dylan Lucas,Mackenzie Baker etc who impressed in cup who could be offered maybe also.

I think Randall will be a swap with Watson in top 30, and Adam Clune will have taken one of Hoy or Crossland spot.
Don’t understand the development contracts, If a player such as above 3 is no longer required, shown nothing, can he be dropped/replaced, case in point Smith did nothing this year, hardly made reserves but others such as Crocker, Ticehurst played better.

Did development contracts go from 6 to 4 a year?
If so that's silly, give the young blokes a chance.
Don't know if it matters anymore. They allowed teams to pick outside of the top 30 & development deals after a certain date this year. Hopefully that stays, it was stupid to begin with, just denying talent an opportunity to play NRL. Imagine training with the NRL squad in pre-season, part of the reserve grade team, but you don't make a development deal, that kills your hopes for the entire year.

Edit: Simi Sasagi had a PO just added him...

That's one Toohey mentioned earlier this season that I had completely forgotten about. Only 17 at the time of signing so seems unlikely he'll be in the top squad or even a development player this soon.

Nrl.com still have Garrett Smith listed on a development contract for 2022 and Christian Ma'anaima listed for 2022 and 2023.

Both dropped back to the real NRL after limited game time in reserve grade in 2021.

Dan Ticehurst and Christian Ma'anaima were both junior Kiwi props in 2019. Dan finished 2021 as starting prop in reserve grade and was showing really good signs, while Christian Ma'anaima was often playing off the bench for Newcastle Wests.

So we only have 1 place left after we get a backrower and winger if lee doesn't recover...

leaves these players without deals...

who do they keep if any?

Crossland will get a 1 year deal - coach sees him as a utility.

Assistant coach role has interest from Flanagan, Ciraldo, McGregor and Pay. (I'd go Ciraldo if he were genuinely interested).

Randall played 70 minutes, made 51 tackles and scored a try with a broken thumb that needed surgery.
