Knights possible targets for 2020

I’d definitely chase Matterson but purely as an edge forward. I’d rather keep Lino at 5/8 as he was progressing really well towards the back half of the season. If Lino can focus more on getting his defence right he’ll be a weapon.

Talk of Matterson going to Titans, possible swap for Brimson. Thought tigers would be in need of a hooker plus attraction of O’B who he has played under. Surely there’s something happening behind the scenes. Combination of Lino and Barnett was horrendous at times

As much as I'd love Matterson to join us, we've had a rubbish experience with Ramien wanting out of his contract for more money. If this article is true then I'd prefer we pass on him and look elsewhere for someone who'll still be happy with their deal more than a year down the track.

Mattersons played in double the games Ramien had and is prob worth the extra coin. And he didn’t drop his bundle like Ramien did either. Klem, Pearce and prob some others came to us coz they weren’t happy with their situation

I'm tipping JWH to be a Knight next year. Gavet's gone to superleague. Front row Klemmer,JSaf and JWH excuse me while I reach for the tissues.

JWH I would take him in a second Klemmer teaches young guys how to work hard JWH teaches them how to be hard .

I'd prefer we throw money at Vunivalu and Curtis Scott, both of whom are supposedly on the outer at Melbourne and who have worked with Obi when he was there.

I wish we were going good enough to "lol" at a player like JWH joining the team.

Probably the most overrated prop going around because of his 'legal' hits on other players making him 'tougher' then he's made out to me. Definately a hard pass.

The knights haven't done a bad job developing juniors.
In the past 6 years or so we have smashed it in juniors.
We have done a bad job moving those juniors into the senior ranks, because we'd rather buy rejects from other squads instead.
Last year we won the minor premiership in under 20s. Our two closest rivals were Penrith and Cronulla.
This year Penrith and Cronulla have rushed heaps of the players our guys outplayed last year into firstgrade, while we finally gave a few guys a run in the last few rounds.
Since Tinkler doubled our spend on juniors in about 2013 we have been the most successful junior club, except for maybe Penrith. We just can't transition them into the top grade.

Billy, looking at Crosslands, Sasagi etc being given go at 6 and possibly other young players being played how would you rate them against Lamb, Cogger etc at same level, u20’s to reserves.
Don’t want them back just interested in thoughts, comparisons.

I agree that the transition into First Grade is where we struggle but we have improved a fair bit in that area over the last 5 years.

From 2007 to 2014 the only players that came through and became decent First Graders were Uate, Roberts and Tetevano. Since 2014 we’ve had Sione, Fitzy, Levi, Saifiti x 2 and guys who are doing pretty well elsewhere like Tapine, Meaney and Cogger. They’re not world beaters but there’s definitely a big improvement there.

It's hard to judge Sasagi because he's played half a game this year and last year was his first at the club and he was the super sub in under 18s because we had the best player in the comp at 5/8 (Jock Madden).
Crossland is the best athlete we have seen in the halves since Mullen - he kicks as long as Pearce, he runs as fast as Ponga, he is tall for a half, he has a big motor and is involved all game. At this point he isn't as good at organising and setting up play as Lamb, but he is getting there.
Crossland is probably not strong enough to throw into firstgrade right now, but another pre season might be all he needs.
From all reports, and from seeing the impact he had off the bench in under 18s last year, Sasagi is as strong as an OX and a big boy for the halves. If he has the skills, he'd be strong enough right now
