Nathan Brown discussion

A lot of those failed head coaches have good footy brains & know their stuff, just don't get along with their players when they're running the show.

I never felt at all during his time coaching Jason Taylor was any sort of a great tactician as a first grade head coach. You get found out pretty quickly if you don't adapt as a first grade coach. He is better suited to coaching reserve grades without an ego like Brennan/Stone etc.

It's why guys like Tim Sheens and Brian Smith lasted long despite minimal success.

is anyone concerned that o brian is another isaac moses client, and has ties to pezet, who since taking over in mooneys role brought in kurt mann to play hooker and hymel hunt who are both managed by moses. we had klemmer break contract essentially under the guidance of his new manager... you guessed it isaac moses.
moses got klemmer to our club and in doing so is getting a hold of the club just like he did the tigers

Moses is scum. One manager that should be rubbed out of the game.

moses has klemmer, kurt mann, hymel hunt, tau moga, buhrer that i know for sure. pezet bought in mann and hunt, and is now secretly meeting with another moses client in obrien, which would be the 2nd time a moses contracted client has broke a current contract to come here. 4 of moses boys to arive within 12months since pezet took over and 1 looks like to be the head coach. imo this stinks to high hell!!!

The problem with all this Pezet and Mosses conspiracy is that for it to hold any water you have to forgot half that 8 weeks ago we were pushing for the top four and had beaten two top four teams. We should never been fighting it out for 8th spot and if we were sitting top six the conversations on Browns future would never have started.

If you wanted to be real harsh you could say if Brown had been more focused on coaching the side to the finals this week rather than doing the farewell PR tour, last night may not have happened.

I thought people believing brown was just walking away off his own bat was the height of naivety. But pezet lining up new coaches without the CEOs knowledge takes the cake

The conspiracy theory being put forward on MMM is that Pezet and Gardiner worked together to oust Brown and that Gardiner doesn’t know what he is doing despite the fact the club has turned it around financially off the field and is out performing the majority of NRL clubs in that regard. Canavan is supposed to have also been left in the dark which is just ludicrous because anyone who knows anything about Canavan knows that if he had been left in the dark as head of football he would no longer be Head of Football. It’s obvious that the club leadership came to the conclusion that the job description of the coach had shifted from rebuilding to making the finals and pushing for a Comp and Brown was no longer the man for that job.

I am sure there are a lot of factors to the decision. Brown said he and Gardner had a discussion and the outcome of that discussion was that Brown leave at the end of the year. Brown also said in the presser last night after that effort that "This is the reason I am not here next year".

Not too hard to work out Brown went to Gardner and had a chat about where they are heading, or the other way around. From that discussion concerns were raised and Brown could read the writing on the wall.

Ponga has to have been a factor as well I believe, Ponga wants to be at a club that is going to be a premiership threat. I doubt after this season, Gardner thought that was going to happen under Brown and had to make a decision. Keep Brown and have Ponga leave, or move Brown on and try to bring a coach in that can get better results and in theory keep Ponga. Brown got a free pass the last three years whilst the "rebuild" was on. Picked up 3 spoons in a row. This year he had his team, the rebuild was done. It was time to be competitive and Brown couldn't make it happen.

I don't buy in to the Moses power play conspiracy as if the team kept winning there would be no questions asked. If they didn't go on a 5 game losing streak to start the year, didn't lose another 6 in a row in the second half, and didn't win only 4 out of 10 home games he would still be there. Not to mention taking our big recruit in Ramien and within the space of 3/4 of a season tell him to pack his bags and don't return, I can't recall that ever happening in any team in the past. Contract torn up sure, but told to go sit at home and don't return but still contracted is bizarre. Pinning it on Moses is laughable.

Phil said their target was to win all home games. 4 from 10 says it all.

Yep, I was going to post that in my post above. That wasn't even this year, that was when the team was a shambles. This year we should have been winning over half our home games. Like you said, the story of our season says it all.

id say the ceo had knowledge of the meetings, i was refering to it all being behind browns back. this sort of stuff happens time and time again when moses is involved, kodi nikorima, david klemmer, tigers big 4, aaron woods to cronulla, tedesco raiders backflip, storm salary cap rort. countless examples of this blokes dodgy practises and in the last 12 months he has gone from 2 to 5 on our books and now we are looking at having a coach managed by him aswell. call it what you will but i dont like what it looks like.
the fact that our head of recruitment is sounding out and meeting with a bloke under contract is unethical and as u alluded to you assume the ceo had knowledge of it. not a good look.
lots of people looking for answers and the bizarre way it has all played out isnt sitting well with alot of people

Oh come on, thats Rugby League these days. Contracts don't mean much and this isn't the first and won't be the last player/coach to ask for a release mid contract to join another club, or the club wanting the player gone mid contract.

They may as well write the contract on bog roll and dispose of appropriately.

The bloke has 5 players on his books out of the top 30 players, he may have more sure. But to have the sort of influence on a club your suggesting, he would need many more, and key players. He has Klem, that appears to be his only key player.

The bloke your talking about that we are apparently sounding out whilst under contract apparently has a get out clause in that contract. So it's hardly poaching to offer him a job and give him the chance to use that get out clause. I assume he bargained to have that get out clause in his contract for a reason.

yeah all fair points mate. n yer he has 5 as it stands now yeah, but add a coach under him, with the head of recruitment looking after self interest potentially, it has the potential to tear a club in half eventually.
i also want to hear from the football operations board, what did buderus, quayle and cannovan think of it, were they consulted at all? did it go to a vote before it was decided to move browny on? if so whats the balance of power on that board as i assume wests group officials hold seats. does anyone know?

The only thing that went wrong was brown finding out about it.
I'm sure Phil wanted the team to play out the season without distraction, then punt brown and parachute O'Brien straight in.

We are just never going to know the inner workings of the board, who was contacted and when etc! Nor should we really. Thats the inner workings of the club and general fans just never will get that level of information.

For all we know, there was no discussion and Brown had his frank discussion and tendered his resignation effective the end of the year as he could see the support eroding. Gardner informs the board and thats that.

Straight out of the gate Fitzgibbon and O'Brien were the front runners for the job. Fitz said no, and that leaves O'Brien. Do you think the board would sit by and let a coach be chosen without due dilligence on Pezet's say so?

One thing I do question is that Gardner said he was going to take his time and interview widely, you learn a lot from interviewing people etc etc. Yet it appears O'Brien has been the choice from early in the piece. And they do not appear to be interested in Wane at all according to Toohey. The fans were also going to get a say yet that isn't happening, nor should it really.

I think Brown sold himself short when he said in the pre match interview that all he did for Ponga was let him play his natural game, and when pressed, said his wife could coach Ponga.
I won't give Brown a lot of praise for anything he did after his first year, but spending basically 2 pre seasons developing Ponga over everyone else really paid dividends.
It's a bit ironic that a coach I think is terrible at developing young players will probably be most remembered for developing one of our best ever.

I know it’s the Rugby League media but watching that Big League Wrap show was painful.

They’re acting as if Brown had us run away minor premiers and competition favourites or some ****.

If he’d of done his job well he’d still have it next year.
It’s not some power play by the evil empire to fire the worlds best coach/bloke and replace him with one of their own. It’s a successful business not accepting mediocrity and finding a better option.

Hooper babbled on about how bad the club have managed everything and how Gardiner won’t answer his calls. Get stuffed you self important prick. God forbid he has more important things to do than have to take some half arsed, uninformed grilling off a moron like you.

The players were responsible for the pathetic effort last night. You know who brought those in players here? The same coach who has won less than 25% of his games since being here. Maybe he should take some of the responsibility as well?
