Tevita Pangai Jnr

Former Broncos players doing their bit too talking him down in the media to lower his market value...

To be fair it doesn’t help with Captain Bennett Jr is phoning it in and waiting to be dropped so he can join his dad at South Sydney.

The question isn't what is he worth noiw, or is he worth a million, but what will he be worth in 2 years time.

Teams pay players on potential now, not just what they are doing now. He has shown enough of his potential that he will command 600k+ on the market as he is a rare commodity at the moment.

Much like signing Ponga, which was a risk at what we paid, he may end up signing cheap depending on how he goes over his next contract.

Some low figures being thrown around

I’ll be surprised to see him sign for anything less than 800K per season.

Hype City

Hahaha remember Kirk Reynoldson back in the day didn't we sign him for like $500k which was like $1million today?

Kirk Reynoldson actually tried to con the Storm into giving him more money at the time. Apparently he had already agreed verbally to a deal with them but we were desperate and upped our offer at the 11th hour.
Him and his manager then went back to the Storm and asked for more money if they were going to match it and the Storm said no we had already agreed to this deal and were privately fuming about what he did.
Of course never reported by stains like Buzz at the time because they were trying to make him a ‘good guy’ who didn’t care about the money.

But on the topic of money the fourth optional year was 196,500 (we offered $150k guaranteed that fourth year which he said no to) which is probably money at the time that you’d give to a guy looking to break into rep footy sooner.

Now that Inglis has retired, uncle Wayne will have the funds for TPJ.

For mine, they're welcome to him. He's good but not worth the money he seems to be demanding. Clearly 5/8 is a big hole for us, so I'd prefer we spend the money there. We have enough backrowers coming through (Stone, Jones and Fermor), and forwards (Momoisea, Saulo and Alifa, for example). Crossland and Randall are good halves prospects long-term, but a dynamic half to partner Pearce sooner would be brilliant.

It will be interesting to see the team selection this week. Brown wanted a running 5/8 and only changed it as KP apparently wanted 5/8. Watson is playing again now and Lino hasn't done a lot there.

Brown mentions Lino being very underdone.

If he puts Watson back there rather than persist with Lino surely that signals he is moving back to a running 5/8 rather than a ball playing 5/8.

I honestly don't think Brown knows what he wants.

TPJ linked with Newcastle for the 1000th time. Personally, I'd prefer that he doesn't come, unless the money is far less than what has been reported he might receive (~$800k). Initially I was all for it prior to us landing Klemmer. Since then, and with TPJ's inconsistent form this year, I'd rather look at some depth in the halves and outside backs with that money.

You would think the inconsistencies would lessen over time, but I wouldn't be prepared to pay that for him at the moment.

I really have no interest in him coming here at all.
When Ese get everything right mentally i think he will be a better player then TPJ will be.

10. Klemmer.
8. Safiti
11. Barny.
12. Fitzy.
13. TPJ

That's pretty sexy on paper.

For 6 games a year, the other 18
Tpj is a pain in the arse.
His not a team player at all imo, thinks his the man and is above the team... dont like him at all.
I wanted Joe Ofahengaue 18mths ago and I'd still take him.
Consistent, runs hard, tackles hard, and would be 400k cheaper then TPJ.

It’s still an absolute joke the Souths are allowed to spend the leftovers to recruit other players. Only in Bennett land. Anyone who thinks the Souths/Bennett didn’t consult the nrl beforehand before declaring they don’t care whether the money counts or not has their head in the sand.

TPJ will only perform for the right coach, but he did perform well in the WC for a guy named Kristian Woolf.

I don't believe it. They say the Broncos will be stretching their cap to the limit but we have no such problems, yet all we've heard in recent times is how our cap is pretty tight now & we can only really use it for upgrades. Sporting News is one of the rare few websites out there I truly believe make things up or put two & two together.

He's got a higher ceiling than Ese'ese. Some of his dominant games were superstar like, but you have to doubt that in the long term he'll be any better than Ese because he just has too many underwhelming games.

I really dont think he does, i think the media just talked up 3 good moments and here we are.
Ese in form has all the attributes to be very damaging in attack and defence, probably doesnt have that aggressive 5 minutes in him that TPJ shows before going mia for 20 minutes
