Rumour: Cook linked to Knights

I’m still not sold entirely on Cook. He had a great season and Origin series but it was his 1st great year at 27.

In the Rabbitohs most important game of the year. the Preliminary final he was terrible and struggled against New Zealand in the end of year Test .

I can see him being a bit of a flash in the pan ala Brad Drew in 2001.

Certainly wouldn't be risking the 800k, 900k etc. that he'll command being the NSW, Australian hooker.

Exactly what I said about a month ago and got shot down by several here. No way is he worth that risk. Needs to back the one season up with another one or two and by the. He will be getting on to hand out a massive multi year contract.

I’d be steering clear of Cook. I don’t think he will have it in him to be worth the money over the next 3-4 years.

I don't know , South Sydney's coach thought he was good enough as did the NSW selectors and the Australian selectors imo that makes him pretty bloody good .
If he was a young guy coming thru I might worry about him not backing it up but he isn't a young guy so I think he will be right and imo he is the best attacking ball running hooker in the comp , by a long way .
Klemmer , Cook , Daniel .
That's a front row I would like to see and besides we would still get to see how he plays next season as its not until 2020.As far as the money goes what do you pay the current NSW , Australian and standout Hooker in the comp .

Why has it taken him till he is 27 to have a break out year? Questions have got to be asked on why he wasn’t even an above standard FG player until then and been at multiple NRL clubs that had passed him up.

Much rather spend the money on a superstar kid coming through the grades that has dominated at all ages and had a breakout year at 20 then someone at 27.

Shame for you cowboys didn’t listen to you

Shame that we decided to top up players such as Morgan and Taumalolo who are seasoned rep players and proven talent which is a higher priority again then a superstar kid.

If given the choice I’m 99.99% sure Parr would do the same thing again. Lock down Taumalolo and Morgan for 10 and 5 years respectively or give a 2 game rookie 700k... it’s really a no brainer.

Like they did with Ponga?

Some people are late Bloomers , some have good players infront of them and have to bide there time Who cares why. He was the stand out hooker in the comp and maybe the world .

For one year and even then he got found out later in the year when it mattered most and wasn’t anywhere near as much an impact on the games.

I’d like to see him back it up for another year or two before chucking 800k his way.

Isnt he 27 , 2 years and he will have signed a long contract somewhere by then he would be 29 if you could get him . At 29 he would be looking for a large and last final contract weve had enough of that at this club imo .
It doesn't matter anyway as Brown has said were not after him as we cant afford him so that's a mute story now I guess.

Exactly why I’d be worried to sign him on a big and long contract. There isn’t enough time for him to prove he isn’t a flash in the pan player as he will then be getting on in age.

Suddenly 27 is old.............
No 27 isn't old but we wouldn't be getting him until 2020 so 29 by then so say 3 yr contract makes him 32 id say that's close to the end for him.
That would probably be his last contract at least in OZ so he would be going for all he could get (and rightly so).

Unfortunate that Cook will be signed for 2020 in the coming months, and we have a few players with designs on the 9 jersey already. Given our cap situation I'd be giving Cook a miss for that price, and see if any of our current players can make the hooking role their own behind a decent pack not getting its arse kicked every game.

Luke Huth is a good prospect as well. So we have 2 good prospects in Woodford and Huth.
