Toohey's News

lot on here still thought we could make the finals and here we are screaming for more players as the current lot from last year were not good enough.

How could a poor coach have a poor roster yet still give it a decent shack for a decent part if the season with a team he's still building
He's win record here is poor do to the roster and mess he took on,
Look at the total career of his coaching and its a solid record.

Not saying his krap, and yep appeared decent overseas lets hope it translates with a decent team over here.

See that's where we differ because I think Brown is doing a great job as coach ..
I don’t know how you can say he’s proven himself (which is what I was questioning) as coach at the Knights, he’s undertaken a difficult job granted but he’s yet to hit any real heights. This next year is a big one for him.

Brown has had nearly 100 players in his squads over 3 years and only a handful have improved.
Coaches like Waite and Ryan improved nearly every player in their squads.
Bellamy improves every player he coaches.
Even coaches like Rick Stone and Michael Hagan had a lot of success in improving players.
Roster management is all very well, but the main jobs of any coach are game plans and developing players.
Brown gets 9/10 for roster management and 2/10 for just about everything else.

Hard to develop players when team isn’t succeeding on field

Kind of the coach's job to get them succeeding on field though.

One thing is certain though. Adding klem to the team extinguishes any excuse brown could have. Our pack will be solid with klem leading it.

Hard to be successful on the Feild when you don’t have the players

Brown didn’t have the cattle and the players they were trying to develop got thrown into first grade to early which in most cases can slow progression down! He now has a solid squad it’s from here on out he needs to start winning and developing

Maybe the handful that have improved under Brown are the only one;s that were going to improve and so Brown got rid of the rest …
IMO a lot of people are way too hard on Brown especially when ******** Benny ran away with his tail between his legs because it was all too hard for him …
Look at the position Brown has put us in we got off the bottom of the ladder , the club has been rebuilt from the ground up .
He got rid of the players we were all complaining about and he has brought in a bloody good roster of talented players from F/b to 2nd row and Brown has also put us in a position where we can offer more money than just about anyone else for the Marquee prop in the Game...
As far as players improving under Brown Fitzy has Daniel has Jacob has Barnett has Dennis has and so has Levi although he has a few brain snaps now and then which is stopping him from being great.
It seems to me that for some people nothing is ever good enough .

That coaching move of Sione in D this year was a masterstroke also.
Sione went from the most unlined player on field for us to one of our most liked again.

Either way, if this coaching thing doesn't work out for Brown, I hope he's eternally recognized for helping build this club back up into the great position it is in now. It's in prime position to become a strong club, now we just have to get it right on the field. I'd love to see Brown have a job here for life in some sort of capacity.

Spot on, Ethan.

Every season there's some bagging out about the performance of the roster and recruitment success/failures.

There's no denying that every season has been an improvement on the previous, case-in-point is the quality of the signings we made for 2018.

Quality players attract other quality players, everyone wants to play with the best and have a realistic shot at the title. The greatest improvement in skills and abilities in all areas of life are when you challenge yourself against tougher opposition and fight for success. This starts on the training paddock with players knowing they need to perform, wanting to outdo their teammates and hold their place in the team.

Without Ponga we may have struggled to land Pearce, without Pearce and Ponga we'd more than likely struggle to land Klemmer. This trend will continue, quality players will seek us out rather than us needing to pay overs.

On the flip side, despite winning more games there are definitely deficiencies in some areas, particularly defense and closing out games. The experience and abilities of particularly the new recruits will strengthen these areas and turn them from liabilities into strengths. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to happen quickly enough, but it will.

While the team we support in 2019 will be better than 2018, it's the teams of 2020 and beyond which provide the most anticipation.

Warren Ryan would have made that call 10 minutes into the first training session I think - not after half a season of trying other things that didn't work.

Haha the forum knew sione couldn't defend at centre before a ball was kicked.

Brown is a master coach for working it out after 12 rounds...

And Ryan would of farked him off also with the other 100 chit players we've moved on.

But keep going, its really working for you.

What will u 2 do next year when we make it deep into September?
Hopefully have a holiday.
