Tevita Pangai Jnr

Gee's for a bloke that's had half a dozen good and not great first grade first grade games people are sure popping their loads over him.

You've said it yourself Lord, these days you gotta pay the big bucks sometimes for blokes that haven't really proven themselves yet over a long period. That's what you need to get ahead now.

That's true mate. But FML he comes across as very, very Dave Taylor most of the time. And we don't have a great record of getting forwards to maintain the rage.

Same thing was being said about Ponga, he turned out ok.

No one currently in the NRL has half the talent Ponga does and this bloke would be lucky to have a 10th of it.

Also his shown zero enthusiasm of coming back here or leaving the Bronco's, Ponga was chomping at the bit to forge a legacy here.

Not so sure about that to be honest. He said himself he laughed when the manager first mentioned Newcastle.

Then he did the tour, spoke with Knights legends and also saw a big fat contract with a starting spot promised so was then convinced to come to Newcastle.

Probably sounds similar for Pangai when he gets the $$$$ put infront if him.

I can see Pangai fading away once on a big contract. Just don’t see the hype in him.

This blows my mind a bit, how can a club like ours with past greats in Harragon, Butterfield and Sargent whom are all still around the club/team a little bit not have to ability to breed into our forwards what our club expects and needs of them.

Seems the forum are getting cold feet about TPJ

In the end of the day there aren't going to be many players keen to come to Newcastle right now just on face value, it's the money then hopefully the town and facilities that get them over the line. Once we're a successful club we might be able to attract players without throwing the kitchen sink at them.

I have had my doubts about TPJ, but what other option is there? We need to take a risk on him.

We aren’t going to be challenging for the 8?with our current pack.

TPJ is 3 months older than Daniel Saifiti, and it sounds like we'll have to give him about double the money Daniel is on to sign him.
I think he is worth as much as Daniel maybe, and maybe offing him a bit more to get him would be OK, but no way is he worth double.

I agree that he is not worth double, simply because he is not twice the player DSaf is. However, as Jaybro says, we need to throw more money at the players we need, including because of location and the club's lack of recent success. IMO, it's a question of how much he is worth to us, rather than how much he is worth on the market generally.

It's a perfect storm for TPJ isn't it? He's off contract at a time when the number of quality props is low, and the number and quality of offers is very high. He seems like a smart guy, which is surprising that he makes it so open that he doesn't intend to move away from Brisbane. If he doesn't sign with us, our public interest in TPJ is a notice to other props that we have the money if they are interested. Will be interesting to see how it all plays out.

Everytime the Sims sisters plays I can't help but get the ****s at what princess's they were for us.

Of course that helped mate no two ways but his enthusiasm has been infectious since then.

His not a prop his a wide running forward and will never ever be the type to roll up his sleeves for 15 carrys his a wide runner and to me not something we need.

Well according to Barry Toohey the Saifiti boys are on about 250K a season, so if we are throwing 800K at TPJ then it's well above double.

People have to realise we need to spend that type of money on these type of guys, you're not going to get TPJ or Klemmer or Taupua for market value or for a good price. Either be happy with signing Vave for peanuts or pay up for TPJ

I personally think if the club is looking at spending 800k on a forward, it should be one that has a proven record of dominance and ability to single handedly destroy other teams in a 20 minute stint.

Wonder if JWH could become available
Definitely has the ability and aggression.

Supply and demand.
Tpj is the only good forward on the market.
I agree 800k is massive overs but he is the only one available. A player is worth what ever someone is willing to pay them.
If Dan is only on 250k that is unders imo.

Dan could do a Klemmer atm, ask for a pay rise or im leaving.
The young man is worth at least 350k and with the potential ahead id offer the twins a package deal of 5mil over 5-6yrs
