Official: Peter Mata'utia leaving the Knights

It will be interesting to see if they buy a replacement or bring Meaney, Phyphian or Hughes into the backline.

Pete was already out of the side next year. Ponga, Sio, Moga, SKD & Ross would have been ahead of him I'd imagine.

I was a big fan of the Sio signing and he's a very solid player but ideally I'd like to replace him with someone that's got some pace. I'd like to give Meaney a shot there.

They're trying to buy a new one...?

Maybe a reserve grade centre. Say SKD & Moga are our centres, if one goes down we'll have to makeshift a new centre out of the likes of Sione, Ross, Chanel, Denniss & Tom Hughes. None of them are really a regular centre.

We should save the trouble & just keep Elliot on as a reserve grade centre. We gave Pete an offer, he thought he could do better so left, fair enough. But apparently we haven't even offered Elliot a deal at all? I'm sure there's a solid chance he'd stick around.

I'm disappointed the Club hasn't made Elliot some kind of offer. Not because he's the next Reg Gasnier. "Plenty of tomorrows" is a term this Club was built on. At 23 Elliot fits the bill. He was bagged mercilessly last year and on face value appeared to be 100% plodder. He's reported to have trained the house down like most of them and improved his game to the point that he wasn't getting bagged in fact he was quite often praised. I think it would send a positive message to other borderline first graders that if you're prepared to work hard you'll get an opportunity. Elliot's entitled to consider himself unlucky not to have been thrown a bone.

Following on from the above comment the next question regarding incentive for hard work is:

With Pete out the door after this season and Pat and Chanel next year, if Sione isn't getting a run with the quality of new blood coming in, can we expect him to follow suit when his contract is up?

Didnt they just renew it?

I thought I read somewhere that we were trying to extend Sione for a bit...

All I know is the 3 of them re-signed in early 2015 on 3 year deals which would take them through to the end of 2018

They may be in negotiations with Sione though, Not sure mate

Beale isn't a reserve grade centre.

Sione will get extended but it won't be another Hagan lotto winning deal. Mooney and Brown would low-ball their own mothers if it meant a better team.

I know & that's why it's confusing. But if I were to guess which of Ponga, Ross, Sio, SKD, Moga & Beale would be playing reserve grade in 2018, my guess would be Beale. Maybe Browny is like the fans in thinking we can do better than Sio, or maybe he really is planning to shock the world by starting Ponga in reserve grade.
