BRISBANE coach Wayne Bennett has delivered the bullet to Herman Ese’ese’s career at the Broncos, ruthlessly pulling a new offer as the prop’s contract saga at Red Hill turns ugly.

The Courier-Mail can reveal Bennett has taken a hard line stance with Ese’ese, withdrawing a contract offer following revelations the 22-year-old is on the verge of signing a $1.4 million deal with Newcastle.

Ese’ese was named on the bench for Friday’s 42-12 loss to the Storm, only to be dropped on match eve, with Bennett adding Joe Ofahengaue to his interchange.

The hulking bookend — rated by Broncos teammate Benji Marshall among the best young props — is said to be shattered by the reality he will not be at Red Hill next season.

It is understood Ese’ese has not formally committed to the Knights and was still weighing up the prospect of staying at the Broncos if they could get closer to Newcastle’s offer.

But three weeks after tabling their offer, Bennett had had enough and pulled the deal, effectively clearing the path for Ese’ese to move.

Negotiations with other stars have dragged on longer, Anthony Milford’s $4 million deal took six months to finalise, but Brisbane could not improve their $275,000 offer.

The Kiwi Test hopeful has produced the best football of his career this season but his manager Simon Mammino yesterday confirmed Ese’ese will sever ties with the Broncos at season’s end.

“The Broncos have pulled the deal,” Mammino said.

“Herman honestly hadn’t made a final decision on his future … but after three weeks of the offer being on the table, it’s no longer an option.

“Herman has no choice now but to leave.

“Herman is in shock with what’s happened. Newcastle are definitely interested, but the Broncos have been good to Herman and we were hoping we might be able to come to a resolution.

“We haven’t agreed to terms as yet with Newcastle, but it looks like that’s where he will end up now.”

Ese’ese has impressed in 14 matches this season. Despite averaging only 36 minutes of action he has amassed 1477m at a mark of 105m a game — making him one of the most effective metre-eaters.

By going to Newcastle, Ese’ese can secure a regular starting spot in the front row, something the Broncos could not guarantee.

So there were no brown paper bags left over for Herman courtesy of Uncle Wayne?

If his form continues to grow from next year he'll be worth the $1.4M and then some.

So Ese,ese was dropped because he is going somewhere else where is the RLPA now because when we did that to Tapine they were all over us like a fkn rash ...
Too busy boo hooing their million dollar players arent gettin 1.3 million.

NRL players have forgotten most families are blue collar and are starting to hate their greedy 30% pay rise grab.

Hilarious isn't in. Clint Newton should crawl out of his dirthole and explain the difference.

Tim Grant would be a very mediocre signing but yet the only one of our props to average more metres a game than him is Dan Saifiti which is pretty depressing stat. We do need another prop to go with Ese'ese and the Saifiti brothers so it really is a matter of whether you would prefer Starling or Grant but we do need another experienced forward to help the young players out and I don't think Starling has done that this year.

Do you know Quinny is Ese'Ese is actually coming?

If he had signed we would know by now. For mine he and his manager were trying to force the Broncs into paying more is all. And it may have bit them on the rump with Uncle Benny withdrawing the offer.

Only what has been said in the media but with Brown saying we will have announcements soon and the Broncos pulling their offer I think he will be here plus their has been noise about us going after him for some time. The media only reported he was coming here last week when he was dropped and his manager said he had not signed anything over the weekend so the announcement could be still a week or so away, if the manager was being honest which is rather hard to tell with player managers.

going by his managers comments who said they basically have no choice now but to come here since Broncos took the offer off the table. Id say he is 100% going to be here

Mataora appeared in 20 top-grade games for the Knights in 2016 and was often applauded by coach Nathan Brown for his efforts against high-profile teams.

But this year he has been a peripheral figure, making only one appearance, 20 minutes off the bench against St George Illawarra two weeks ago, when he did not take a hit-up and made 10 tackles.

The Cook Islands international is off contract and unlikely to be re-signed by the Knights. The Herald understands he is weighing up if he wants to continue playing in the NRL or “get on with life” and find a new career path.

He started in the NRL as a 19-year-old with Canberra in 2010 and has played in 63 games, but admits that at times he has struggled for fitness and motivation.

One option to replace him could be Manly’s in-form prop Brenton Lawrence.

Lawrence, 32, has knocked back a one-year deal from the Sea Eagles and is understood to be interested in making a fresh start in Newcastle.

A late bloomer, he has played in 94 NRL games, including all 15 for Manly this season in their starting line-up.

The Knights are also reportedly poised to announce the signing of Brisbane prop Herman Ese’ese and his teammate, centre Tautau Moga.....Read this on F/book

Another 7 signings is too many.
We have most of the players we need if we get Moga and Eseese.
We would be better off going for 2 real quality signings than another 7 ordinary players to join the 30 or so we already have.
A great half and a great prop will add a lot more than 7 fringe guys.

100% we have 25 "fringe" guys atm as it.
A hard head prop and a controlled half would be great!!!
