Official: Knights sign Connor Watson on a 3 year deal

Not too fussed if we lose out on Watson for $600k. That said would have been ok with it if we were able to offload Hodkos money but I've given up on that heh.

Broncos still haven't announced Milford yet? I find it hard to fathom they are doing everything they can to keep Es'ese while Milford is probably trying to extract as many dollars as possible like Boyd

Milford signed awhile back

LoLo was playing reggies I think he'll play where he's told .....
Pretty sure they already see him as Tedesco's replacement anyway. So unless Watson wants to rotate at hooker with McIllwrick then so be it.

Far out I really can't stand Feeney in the halves. Every time I catch a glimpse of his running game and begin to think optimistically about him he misses his foot on a kick or throws a pass to the oposition :brickwall:

Bring on Watson, even at 500k a year. He's got all the physical tools Feeney has with a footballers head on him. Really think his direct running style would look good outside Lamby who continues to impress.

A backline of,

1. Ponga
2. Kenny-Dowall
3. P. Mata'utai
4. Moga
5. Ross
6. Watson
7. Lamb

would make me pretty excited. Especially with the likes of Elliot, Sio, Phythian, Gagan, Cogger, Feeney and even Hodkinson to come in if injuries strike.

James Graham would make our additions look that much better imo! If we can add him, Ese Ese, Watson, Moga, SKD, Guerra and Ponga then that would definitely be a successful window!

FFS, I really wanted to see Watson here too. Tigers are just buying everything that breathes at the moment.

not over yet. Knights still holding onto hope that they can sign him for less since he grew up as a Knights fan and wanting to play for us. Plus we offered his preferred position in the halves.

Roosters utility Connor Watson faces decision time as Tigers and Knights circle

MATT LOGUE, The Daily Telegraph

THE money or playing in his preferred position — that’s the predicament facing rising Rooster Connor Watson as the Wests Tigers and Newcastle circle for his signature.

Watson has one year remaining on his contract at Bondi, but the Roosters are prepared to part ways with the young playmaker at the end of this season.

The 21-year-old Central Coast junior has indicated he wants to start, which can’t happen at the Roosters with Luke Keary and Michael Gordon ahead of him.

Watson had hoped to snare the fullback position at the Chooks in 2018, but this changed when the Tricolours signed Tigers and NSW star James Tedesco.

The Roosters are also set to retain Gordon, although he could be shifted from fullback to the wing to accommodate Tedesco.

Tedesco’s four-year contract with the Roosters has prompted the Tigers to offer Watson a whopping $600,000 to play fullback from next season.

Newcastle are also in the mix for Watson.

The Knights have tabled the Dubbo-born playmaker approximately $400,000 to play five-eighth.

Watson would prefer to play in the halves and he grew up wanting to play for Newcastle, which could work in the Novocastrians favour.

The Knights have also signed Roosters Shaun Kenny-Dowall and Aidan Gurrea.

Despite the Tigers’ substantial offer for Watson, which is more money than Australian PM Malcolm Turnbull takes home, Newcastle officials remain hopeful Watson will link with the Knights on a long-term deal.

Someone told me the other day that Watson is related to Heath Gibbs in our under 20s. I didn't know how that worked, but I see in that article he is from Dubbo originally, as is Gibbs. Gibbs is Timana Tahu's nephew, so I suppose Watson is related to Timana at least by marriage, so that might explain why he grew up a Knights fan.

Probably saw the courier mail headline. Ill believe it when I see it confirmed.

Im real hopeful we get Watson also. I dont like our chances of signing maloney.

I have it through a great source that Watson is signed for 2018.

Massoud is right that the tigers have offered him better coin, but at this very moment watson will be a knight in 2018. Things can quickly change though as its still in the cooling off period. Connor signed on monday the 19th of July.

Ese'ese and moga will be announced as soon as next week as they both signed on friday. Also expect SKD announcement as soon as Wednesday.

Hope you're right mate.

How good would that be. Skd, moga, watson and ese'ese to add to ponga.

That would certainly put to bed our concerns that we cant sign anybody. Hopefully make it easier to attract that good experienced prop we need. Maybe by the name of graham.

Fox sports article says Watson has signed with the tigers for 500k a year & the fullback jersey
That article is from 10hrs ago, 13hrs ago they published an article saying Watson has two clubs to choose from. Much like the jack bird scenario the media are chasing headlines hoping to be right.

As of this very moment Watson is a Newcastle knight for 2018 and beyond.

Apparently Souths have trumped us for Maloney. Give Watson an extra $100k - $150k per year if required. What halves we have at the moment are not working.
