Dane Gagai Re-Signs with Knights until 2017

He's too unproven for 500k. Last few years form is nowhere near that money. However going off Round 1 this might be his year to prove he's a top tier player.

Sione's problems are he's a bit small in attack & defence & he gets caught out a bit at fullback. But I see no problem in that, he has a hell of a lot of growing to do, he's already massive for an 18-year old, if he's got a growth spurt coming then that should solve his problems in attack & defence. He's always been a power player against kids, he just needs to grow up to adult size now. And on fullback, he hasn't been a fullback his whole life & is literally a kid just out of high school in the NRL & he holds his own at fullback. He's not a perfect player & may never be a true superstar, but it's very wrong to doubt his potential or the fact he's going great for the point he is at in his career.

honestly i think if he goes to the bronco's he will regrett it, but thats a personal opinion
Hopefully this means we can have sione resign faster
 
How much should we offer Sione? He's still got a long way to go if we wants to establish himself as a long term fullback.
Is his offer at the Dogs still on the table?
Brett Morris been killing it at fullback. Lafai and Josh Morris are established centres.
So the only real spot would be on the wing.
I doubt Hasler going to pay top dollar for a winger.
 
I think he should be getting 500k MAX and some of that is to do with rep players automatically having a higher value. A cent more is overs. 400k seems more appropriate. Right now he's not getting the chance to play his natural role but we seriously have to lock him in especially if it's true Gagai is going and this could be Gidley's final year. I think once he's given a fulltime position at centre, fullback, wing, wherever it is, he'll show his worth then just like he did when he got to finish the last 7 games off last year, he just needs to make a position his own. Sadly he won't get to do that unless there's an injury which I also hope does not happen any time soon. But he'll get his chance.
 
The way i see it the Knights need to decide who's going to be the long term fullback out of Mamo and Sione and pay them accordingly.
You should only pay top dollar in the spine positions.
 
I don't think Gagai would work that well as a fullback to be honest. His skills are much better suited to the edges. Saturday night was a prime example. He looked extremely ineffective when he was taking runs in the middle and even the commentators were saying that he was being used wrong there and we needed to hit him on the end of a backline play. Also he gets bent back too easily so unless the oppositions defensive line was absolutely shot he'd be extremely ineffective on kick returns.

If by some off chance he decides to stay Id leave him at centre and play Sione fullback. I know it's not Sione's natural position but he has the strength to get us off to a good start with his kick returns, he can pass and he has a good footy brain...all of which are needed at the back.

Has anyone heard the news about DCE apparently approaching a bunch of our off contract players (one being Gagai - Midly didn't name the others) and telling them to join the Titans?

I wouldn't be surprised.
Gagai grew up playing footy with DCE, Hoffman, Barba
 
I'm not worried about him calling Gagai, I was resigned to him leaving anyway...it's whoever else the little **** has been contacting.

Mamo and/or Snowden, I'd say.

Not really worried if he contacted Snowden, though. Pretty confident he loves it here and will want to re-sign with us

DCE wouldn't know many of our NYC guys you'd think unless he's been told by the Titans

I think the Titans would be a good option for Gagai. Close to his family and he wouldn't be suffocated under Bennett Ball.

It's not enough that the dude had a complete lack of professionalism and regard for his club while negotiating his own contract...now he's trying to recruit players from other clubs there while he's still under contract to Manly.
