Dane Gagai Re-Signs with Knights until 2017

You're a champion of our lesser known players. And probably the only person to have an insight into our lower grades. So I'm not gonna try to tell you Chanel has no talent, but I think it's a touch too far to compare him with Aku.

Just from what we've seen from Chanel it's fair to say he's nothing special. He'll do a job on the wing, maybe even in the centres, but he'll never be the caliber of a Gagai or a BJ, let alone Aku
He doesn't have the speed or power of Aku, but his record up to age 22 is better in every grade, and he has made big improvements in the last two years, so he may well have more in him yet.
I'm probably the only one who bothered to watch him play in the NSW residents V Qld residents game which was broadcast online, and I can tell you he had the game of his life. It wouldn't surprize me if he ran 300 metres with blockbusting run after blockbusting run, and if he has more of that in him we are in for a treat.

Maybe the media does but I don't think anyone on here ever talks up Chanel as a superstar, probably just giving him the recognition that he deserves for being an NRL quality winger that can play.

I have been re-watching some Knights games this season and some of his hitups coming out of our own end were pretty impressive and he often drives his legs forward well in the tackle. He takes a while to bring down.

How would Uate's record look if he'd been playing since the age of 7 ?

You can never take that away from him any other year he wouldn't have played city country. Let's not blow our loads lads.
There were a lot of proven NRL quality players still available for Australia that didn't get picked. That's got say something about him.

All I'm saying is that he should get a FG spot first up and that it's his to lose. It would he pretty laughable if he went from Aus Rep and then straight to NYC or NSW Cup.

His record in Ball would look a lot better.
He only scored one try in about 5 games in Ball, and that was basically a 60 metre footrace to the ball in which he gave everyone a big start and ran past them like they were standing still (Dureau kicked the ball to the ingoal from about halfway).

Happy to let them walk and keep gagai and mamo if it comes to that.

I can see where you're coming from.
BJ and Gagai have a higher ceiling. BJ with his raw power and Gagai with his feet and hands.
Sione is solid in most aspect of his game but teams are not going to fear him.
I'm not sold on Mamo but he has raw pace that you can't coach.

We will survive if the brothers walk.
Wingers and centres are a dime a dozen.
But if Cogger and Lamb keep developing for the next two years, we need to sign them whatever it takes. Top quality halves are like gold.

I remember Walker being solid last year at 18 and look at him now. He's a gun.

It's best not to make those kind of calls yet, otherwise you may look really silly in a year or two. Teams in the lower grades certainly feared him as he was carving them up ... there's no reason he won't eventually be able to in the top grade. 7 tries in 7 NRL games for an 18 year old isn't bad either.

Did you know gagai was the worst centre defender the past two years? Did you also know game for game Chanel and sione have made more meters then uate and McManus. James deserves his chance again because he was out injured. Uate played terrible last year. Don't be surprised if sione starts in nsw cup.

Say no to the brothers is like saying no to cogger and lamb. Mullen and Roberts have a long way to go

I've been banging on and on about Gagai's poor defence for a long while. I'm just like manager, in that, I can see that Gagai has a ceiling which is far higher than that of Chanel. Sione is a different prospect, though. Even though he doesn't have the flashy feet of a Gagai or a Walker, he has another element of class. People can see it but can't quite figure out exactly what it will amount to. So while Sione is equally exciting as anyone in our squad, Chanel imo is a mundane prospect by comparison, despite his monster metres with the ball

Glad no one at club cares what you think

LOL, I can only imagine how hard your life is. You've been waiting to sling mud at me, haven't you?

Unfortunately for you, my opinion seems to be mirrored in the clubs decisions. So while the club may not be bothered by my advice on player selection, it seems not much would change even if I were coach haha

"A delusion is a belief held with strong conviction despite superior evidence to the contrary."

Haven't seen the whole discussion, but can we please keep insults out of it Kenny? That's not the atmosphere of this place, if you haven't noticed.

Well Chanel was recommended for the NSW residents side by Stone, and after he played well in that game he was promoted to firstgrade to replace Mamo, and he was kept in firstgrade over Mamo, Mantellato and Sione (although Sione was almost certainly dropped so he could place in the NYC finals).
I can't see any evidence in that which shows Stone doesn't rate him - just the opposite in fact.
I'll be surprized if he isn't 4th choice winger behind Uate, Macca and Sione, but until the team is named, there's no evidence to say that's how Stone will go.

Do you wanna put your money where your mouth is?
