2014 NRL Player Rumours & Signings

Top player is Burgess, there's a couple more young English players that would walk into a nrl side if the decided to come over here.

I understand roosters losing sbw and mini allowing some coin but with that roster how they keep getting players surprises me, surely players like guerra tupou Napa Moa would be looking for upgrades,

Yeah i think there was an article a few weeks ago saying how most of the guys who have just started making rep teams all signed their contracts when they were just fringe first-graders so that's how they afford it all. Which means when they all come off-contract they are gonna lose a fair few & will probably have to rebuild with the juniors that they've just started to bring through like Willis Meehan, Brendan Eliott, Jackson Hastings etc.

Israel Folau has joined a list of potential replacements for Jarryd Hayne

PARRAMATTA are set to make a second play at Wallabies superstar Israel Folau — with the club suddenly boasting a marquee ‘slush fund’ of well over $1 million.

With Eels superstar Jarryd Hayne sensationally quitting the game, club CEO Scott Seward has revealed Folau joins a hit list of potential recruits including Manly’s Kieran Foran, Brisbane livewire Ben Barba and fellow Bronco Josh Hoffman.

Asked about Folau, who knocked back the Eels two years ago following salary cap dramas, Seward said:

“Anybody who says they don’t want Izzy is lying to you.

“We’ll look at every opportunity out there and if he wants to come back to rugby league, we’ll certainly be a club that wants to have a chat with him.

“From a player perspective, we can definitely attack a little more than we could before. We have to attack.

“We have to find a replacement for the best player in the game and we will.

“Obviously you can’t replace Jarryd — I don’t think we should try — but we do want a side that can get out there and win the competition.”

While Folau and Foran are not off contract until the end of next season, it is understood the Broncos would be willing to release either Barba or Hoffman for 2015.

One player the Eels won’t be going for, however, is controversial Wallabies playmaker Kurtley Beale.

“I don’t think Kurtley would be at the Eels,’’ Seward said.

“I have never met Kurtley and don’t know a lot about him, but I’m not sure he would be the right fit for what we’re trying to build at this footy club.

“But the net will certainly be cast far and wide.

“There might be someone coming off contract in 2016 who is unhappy where they are, there might be a club which has surplus requirements.

“This isn’t about one position. While we have lost a fullback in Jarryd we’re not necessarily going to go like-for-like.”

Elsewhere, it is understood the Eels have almost certainly locked down a deal with NSW Origin forward Anthony Watmough, whose troubles at Manly have been well documented.

While Hayne is not expecting to return to the NRL, he has signed an agreement that would return him to Parramatta should his NFL experiment fail.

Asked how the Eels would fit, say, a new marquee like Folau and Hayne should he return, Seward added:

“It’s going to be a juggling act and it’s going to be something we look at.

“We’re going to have to work with the NRL as well.

“The most important thing for us and the game is if Jarryd Hayne wants to come back to the NRL, he will come back and we will open the door for him and make it work.

“I hope he is successful over there for him as a person and an athlete.

“Again, that is where it doesn’t have to be a fullback for fullback swap.”

He's a very underrated player in my eyes. I think maybe his versatility is his down fall. Wouldn't mind him at the Knights in all seriousness.

Seems similar to Carlos Tuimivave for me. Kills in it in NSW cup, but when he plays first grade is too versatile to hold a spot anywhere.

Only thing is, Carlos always killed it in NYC at 5/8, no other position. Then coaches started playing him at fullback, wing and centre, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, he hardly ever plays 5/8 these days...

Humbles always played different positions throughout his career and juniors, never really held down a spot to work on the skills needed for that position.

Coaches trying to play the versatile card, has killed a lot of players careers over the years...

Wouldn't know too much on what position Carlos plays nowdays, good chance Billy may know though.

The last few games I've seen of him in NSW Cup he's been playing in the halves he is pretty good there but could play Fullback as well. Maybe even hooker

Halves is definitely his spot. Hopefully for NSW cup next year we will play him at either 6 or 7.

I've always been pretty high on Humble especially when he was at Parra. He can play in the halves, hooker, fullback and maybe the odd wing on occasions if he could knuckle down one position I believe that he could be a great player

He was horrible while at the Tigers. Haven't seen any of his from this year with the exception of the national championship GF.
