vBookie: 2013 World Cup - Australia v England

That's really got nothing to do with what I'm talking about, I'm talking about discussing the game objectively instead of these stupid repetitive and boring posts. Same as what happens with the Knights.

Who cares if people are biased towards Their NRL team, State and Country sides, Nothing wrong with it imo...

These player ratings are stupid. We played and defended poorly for a majority of the game, we leaked 20 points yet that warrants over half the team getting over 7.5 smh

Bias is one thing, this has just been mindless cheerleading in this thread.

Mindless Cheerleading ?? All I see is people supporting their Country...Not sure what's wrong with that

Guess we see it different ways, Oh well...Moving on :)

Nothing at all wrong with supporting your country? I support NZ, but I don't continuously go on about how wonderful they are, how much they've won etc every second post.

But yep, moving on. :)

It's funny when the kiwis have won just as much trophies since 2005 and currently hold the big one and yet the Australian side are the so called champion side...

On the game itself I thought Scott and Thaiday were our least productive forwards in the game. Scott is probably safe from being dropped but Thaiday could be in trouble if Cordner and Myles shine when given the chance. Plus Lewis impressed when he came on the field.

Tamou was shocking in his first stint but I thought he was really good after that and was highly involved. Fifita and Parker were key to the momentum change along with the bumbling hands of the Burgesses mainly Tom. I think the bench is the best option for Fifita and there is no real need to start him.

Of the backs apart from JT I thought they were all contained fairly well with the one off moment for Slater just before half time. Hayne needs to be in the side and there's a good argument for Jennings to but he has rarely ever played on the right side so it will be interesting how well he adapts and defends on that side.

If I was in charge of Australia, I think I'd definitely have Cordner in for Thaiday. I'd have Hayne for Morris. I think it's worth giving Jennings a shot for Tate - surely Jennings would have played the other side of the field at some stage in his career? And this might be controversial, but I'd have Cherry-Evans starting at halfback with Cronk on the bench instead of Farah.

Farah was fairly pointless on the bench. Cronk at least does offer a little bit of flexibility, but I think DCE is the better halfback these days.

Maybe just Myles on the bench instead of Farah? Lewis covers most positions in case of injury.

I spose it's not a huge issue, that last benchie might not get much gametime either way, but I just think they could get more out of it than they do by having Farah there.

I agree with what you have said. I'm sure Jennings has played a bit on the right but it wouldn't be that much. He definitely deserves a shot against Fiji and Ireland. It will be interesting to see who has the spot when it comes down to the serious end of the tournament.

I really don't see the need to have Farrah or DCE on the bench while ever Bird and Lewis are in the side. It's a wasted spot in the 17 imo.

Cronk was invisible in the game I honestly think DCE will give him a run for his money throughout this tournament and could well end up being starting halfback when it gets serious.

Lol I make one post after an Australian win and you sooks carry on over it and Cowboyman starts bringing up how good NZ are and posts I made from weeks ago... And I'm the one that brings up past success LOL. 11 pages and several posts from me without me bringing up how good Australia are but yeah every second post is talking them up.. even if it's easy to do when they win so many games.

It's in a thread talking about the Kangaroos, I'm a fan, we won and I gave my thoughts while I was still excited moments after the game, which afterall was one of the biggest and most crucial games of the tournament. And it's easy to get carried away when all I've been reading for the last few weeks is how good England are and how much Australia are at risk of losing. If you don't like me supporting my team and being bias towards them, and being proud of their current winning streak and what they've done over the years and what they're doing now, it's simple - don't read my posts. If you're not as passionate about the Kiwis (can't blame you for that) as I am for the Kangaroos then so be it, that's not my problem.

I'm not even going to bother to even read whatever gets replied since it's just as much rubbish as my bias Australia posts lol I'll no doubt tone it down over the next few Aus game thread since it's against lower ranked countries that I actually want to see do well.

And agreed with the team changes. Guys like Thaiday won't play next week but I'd want them back for the final. I'd swap Hayne for Morris, so much stronger and threatening. Tate was good I thought, if Jennings can play right though I wouldn't mind him coming in and seeing how he goes there. Also agree that Farah should go and bring in Myles. Smith didn't even come off last night so there's no need for Farah to even be there. He didn't offer much apart from one or two good scoots.

It's funny when the kiwis have won just as much trophies since 2005 and currently hold the big one and yet the Australian side are the so called champion side...

NZ had a few good years and won 2 major titles and good on them they deserved it...They only won The 2008 World Cup and the 2010 4 Nations (Which we took back in 2011

Australia has dominated for more than half a century that's why we are called champions...

When we take back the World Title there can be no disputes

Forgetting the tri-nations win in 2005 for NZ?...

And I thought James brought up the kiwis first?

Not sure what your saying in regards to James...but oh well

And yep I did forget that one so thanks for that...

Bottom line imo Australia are the greatest Rugby League Nation in the world and are a champion team...But each to their own

Moving on, Can't be bothered anymore

Well James was the first one to mention the kiwis was he not and how he supports them? All I did was say how they have matched Australia in the trophy department over the last 8-9 years. That was in reference to Junior11 pointing out how I was first to bring then up...

Australia have been the greatest nation in the world at rugby league in its history but they certainly don't hold that high mantle in the recent past imo.

Good god, someone dared question Australia's obvious superiority, now the cat's amongst the pidgeons!

After this match I wouldn't consider Australia superior at all lol we nearly lost to England.

Inglis at fullback would be a much better option, but of course that won't happen.

If Inglis is fully over his knee injury and could get back to his form at the start of the year then I agree ... if it's still nagging him, it's pretty 50-50 though. Slater had his moments, but was pretty good I thought.

Inglis didn't get a whole heap to do in the centres though ... the more ball he gets the better for Australia. Another tough one!

The thought of keeping Hayne on the bench most of this tournament annoys me. He should've just played for Fiji.

Tate is not a centre at rep level anymore, he's played well on the wing for QLD and B-Moz is doesn't have that X Factor. I'd even play him ahead of Boyd.

England star Sam Burgess hit with one-week ban for high shot on Australia forward Sam Thaiday

SAM Burgess has escaped with a one-week ban for his sickening high shot that ironed out Sam Thaiday - but there is a genuine fear his reckless ways could eventually destroy his career and someone else's in the process.

The line in the sand for foul play at the World Cup was established when they slapped the Englishman with a feather duster for his ugly shot that left Thaiday flat on his back and suffering concussion.

While the rest of the league world is up in arms over Burgess' wild swinging arm, the World Cup's law enforcers had their hands tied because Burgess' previous bad record wasn't taken into account.

This is the fourth time this year Burgess has been suspended after he was rubbed out previously for a high shot on Mitchell Pearce as well as a crusher tackle on Andrew Fifita and his squirrel grip on Will Chambers.

But at the World Cup he was treated like a clean skin because past form is not factored into the punishment at this tournament - the reason being that so many players are coming here from different competitions.

But Burgess's reputation has taken a battering, and rightfully so.As good a bloke as he is off the field, people are getting sick and tired of watching him overstep the mark of what is acceptable aggression and it always seems to be at the expense of his opponents.

Thaiday is unlikely to back up this week against Fiji but no final decision on his fitness will be made until later in the week. The Brisbane skipper has undergone cognitive tests since he suffered the concussion - but regardless of those results it appears unlikely coach Tim Sheens will risk him this weekend.

Burgess's bad boy reputation will eventually work against him unless he changes his ways, just like it did for another English enforcer, Adrian Morley.Morley was also a wonderful player and a great bloke to boot - but his issue with "whiteline fever" was often to his teams' detriment.

Morley was a serial offender during his time in the NRL and held the record for the fastest dismissal in Test history when he was sent off after 12 second for his disgraceful shot on Robbie Kearns in the first Ashes Test of 2003.

Morley served 11 suspensions all up for a totally 25 weeks - so far Burgess has been charged six times in the NRL before this latest incident. But he is only 24.

Burgess has been lucky in that none of his suspensions have been for an extended period - but that luck won't last unless he changes his ways.

Boot 'thug' Sam Burgess out of the Rugby League World Cup, writes Phil Rothfield

SAM Burgess should have been suspended for the remainder of the Rugby League World Cup. He is a thug.

No other word adequately describes the man’s appalling and inexcusable behaviour on rugby league fields in 2013.This is the fifth occasion the South Sydney forward has been involved in foul play and unsavoury incidents in 2013.

It’s a record that is starting to make Les Boyd, Bob Cooper and Adrian Morley look like clean players.

The squirrel grip, a crusher tackle, the facial (almost gouging) of James Maloney, a head-high on Mitchell Pearce and now a good old fashioned stiff arm on Sam Thaiday. And his penalty?

If this was a one-off incident for the season, two weeks would be sufficient punishment — even if England’s next two World Cup fixtures are inconsequential matches against Ireland and Fiji.

There’s every chance he would be rested for one of the games anyway. On Monday, I spoke to recently-retired NRL match-review committee chairman Greg McCallum about the incident.

He’s had more experience dealing with foul play than anyone else in the game. He says it was reckless, rather than careless, meaning a higher penalty if it was going before the NRL judiciary.

It takes a lot to knock over Kangaroo second-rower Sam Thaiday, let alone leave him sprawled out on the turf with concussion. One of the toughest forwards of the modern era, he was attacked to the head as Burgess came in like a missile.

With the football under one arm and players already in the tackle, Thaiday had no hope of protecting himself.

This was not just a cheap shot, but a brutal and dangerous swinging arm that could easily have broken Thaiday’s jaw.The fact he wasn’t sent off immediately was a joke.

Burgess used to be one of the most admired and respected forwards in the NRL.He is a super football player but his foul-play record this year can no longer just be ignored.

Outside the cases he was charged on, I also had a problem with the tackle that ended Matt Cooper’s career in the Dragons-Rabbitohs match.

Accidents can often happen in the high collision, high speed game that is rugby league. But there is nothing accidental or even careless about squirrel grips and crusher tackles.

It’s thuggery.

Sam Burgess needs to be taught a lesson.

His World Cup should be over.
