Who will Bennett axe, retain & recruit for 2013?

Absolutely loving the whole one year thing. Its about bloody time we had a coach who makes some harsh decisions.. Watch how consistent Edwards form will be from now

Agree that Edwards has been showing better form of late. That said, he's rapidly slipping down the 2nd row pecking order.

Houston and McKinnon are both getting 80 minutes now. Costigan is a favourite of Bennett. Scott and possibly Jeremy Smith coming next year would mean Edwards in NSW Cup, and good teams don't pay 200k a year for depth.

Good point. Its recruitments way of saying we don't need you.. I would like to know what they offered him though, 150k+ isn't a big reason to move to the UK immediately. I bet he stays another year then gets a bigger contract in the Super League

There was no use Penrith putting up a fight to keep Lewis He didn't want to be there. I know Lewis is a very good player but imagine the fuss if Inglis, Smith, Slater, Gallen et etc went on the market. Sure Lewis would have been a good signing but @ 500K a season ?

I think it has to be accepted that more and more players will be worth 400-500k when 5 odd years ago, maybe a bit more I reckon it'd be about 5 heh. Salary cap rise will do that. Though IMO Lewis on 500k > Scott on 500k

It's crap how Rothfield can continually rip into us about recruiting players yet you never hear him mention anything about other sides apart from the Roosters occasionally because he hates Smith.

The Sharks have also started to be active in the player market, and he will probably make up some BS about how he supports it and they are building, and of course when we do it, we're poaching players ;). Much like his complete backflip on players like Carney (saying he should be in jail to everyone gets a 2nd chance) and Snowden (LOL @ Smith for letting him go to worst buy this year, playing busted). If Carney signed with the Knights, Panthers or maybe even another club he would be saying ban him again.

Have the Raiders pulled out of their interest for Edwards? I remember hearing about them but it might have been a rumour.

With nearly all the fringe guys being moved on where is our depth going to come from next year?
Anyone want to have a crack at the possible NSW Cup side?

Who will be no longer be eligible for NYC?

Young guys is where It'll come from.

Most premiership winning sides have little depth. They rely on luck with injuries, then when they need to call upon someone its young guys looking to impress in the top grade. No point having multiple 100+ game veterans sitting in NSW Cup like we have had this year. We need a quality top 20, and then 5-10 young fringe guys who are ready to go in NRL, but at a fraction of the cost.

Probably the only place you want solid depth in is your 6,7,9. The rest of the positions can be easily filled if you have semi-talented guys willing to put in 110%.

True, but Bennett doesn't seem to rate most of our young forwards. Surely anybody who watches our NSW Cup side can see that Anderson, Mason, Cook and Rochow would give their absolute best effort if given a chance in FG? I know Rochow has been used and did not let down, Tets has done well too. O'Donnell is off to Penrith and I think only Rochow has signed for next year and beyond. Do we want to sit back and watch these others head to Sydney to get a game next year? If we lose a couple of games in FG and miss the finals whay not call these young blokes up from cup for a couple of games each and test them out? What can we loose except our local talented juniors, which we were told would not happen.

All true, but I'm wondering who the bodies are going to be.

Like I said, most of the NSW Cup guys are getting the punt, and they've had to use a few Real NRL guys this season.

So what happens next year?

Cook going to Parra I think.
Does Tets have a deal for next season? Coach Bennett wasn't impressed with his defensive "effort" v the Warriors and he got benched. Didn't do himself any favours.

It's easy to say that but you can't know what Bennett personally thinks. Who's to say Anderson, Mason & Cook are ready for first-grade yet, or needed at the moment for that matter. I trust Bennett enough to know what he's doing & just because 3 young guys in their very first year of seniors haven't been used in first-grade yet, doesn't mean he doesn't rate anyone. A few weeks ago I asked Bennett about it on the Knights Insider thing & he reckons there are a number in NSW Cup & certainly a number in NYC that could be ready in the next 18 months, that tells me he rates a few in NSW Cup & rates more than a few in NYC. I know every man & his dog wanted Bennett to throw all our juniors in at many stages of the season, but he was right to stick with the team, they are finally performing.

Yes Tets is signed up for one more year.

Will be interesting to see who from NYC is retained once they are too old.

Tyler Randell
Korbin Sims
Will Smith

all have deals for after this year.
