Joel Edwards talks new deal with Knights

Has he done anything to get a 3 year deal? I get his the future and all but I'm beginning to think Tolar v2 here.

I feel as if we're jumping the gun. 9 missed tackles in the one game went unnoticed among many here. However he would be on next to peanuts and hopefully his better years are ahead of him.

Pity he hasn't been showing the "negotiating for a contract form". To me he has plenty in common with The Knack ie both one hit wonders.

He played his best football as a starting lock, exactly the same as Hilder. I doubt we're gonna see his best until Wayne realizes that he's either gotta be starting or not in the side at all, because he brings no impact off the bench.

I'm pretty happy with the re-signing.

Also awesome news on Smith, i was just thinking yesterday, if we re-sign him where would he play next year with Roberts, Stig, Kelly, Davis, Briggs & others all impressing in NSW Cup.

Exactly what I was thinking. Tolar v2. Everyone will be sympathetic if he plays poorly because he's a local lad. Hopefully the contract is according to his offering and Wayne figures out how to make him effective. Two year deal tops.

Has done nothing close to deserving a 3 year deal. If he keeps playing like this for 5 or so more rounds i would have no problem with him leaving.

I guarantee if he was forced to leave there would be a huge uproar as well.
As much as i agree he hasn't done much this year he is a Knights Junior with huge potential who we should be looking at retaining. As was mentioned before. I doubt he would be on much $$$ anyway

In all honesty I think Wayne is trying to figure out where everybody's best positions are in the team with his structures, he has probably decided to ignore previous years form as he doesn't want the knights to play like previous years.
He has obviously seen enough out of Joel to want to renew his contract.
You can't have the players playing the same position as last year and expect them to perform the same if you want structures to be completely different, I'm willing to see out the year and see what happens, that is probably why we see guys like Richie not playing in certain weeks as Wayne is trying to figure out EVERY players best position if they are called into the team for injuries.
No point having a player sitting in NSW cup come into the team for a second rower when you find out under waynes style he is better suited to prop or lock.

Just my 2cents, I'm just a loungechair coach but thats what I think he's doing.

I think he's a prop for sure ... he might have pulled off some big hits last year at lock, but for me he was most impressive in his few games in 2010, when he played prop. He made a good impact in attack in those games.

Now, if he could do that again ... we would be happy.

Yeah my first thought on Edwards was front row, then when he started pulling off those tackles (some extremely important) i was thinking lock... its a hard one to work out yet i guess we just have to see what wayne wants from him

Well currently, he's way too skinny to be a prop, he lost a fair bit for this season because he wasn't playing prop anymore, he needs to beef up a bit probably.

Eddy is in favour and Tets is out of favour.

Wayne bases everything on defence, and Eddy loves defence. Tets does it, but he has had to learn to pull his weight and is still not a keen defender.

Run 5 feet away from Tets and he won't bother trying to tackle you - run anywhere within 12 feet of Eddy and he will be first or second tackler.

Most of us would rate Tets the better prospect because he is hard to handle in attack, but it's now obvious that Wayne most values guys who are terriers in defence.

Wayne values guys who are terriers in defence ? You mean like Hilder ?
I had a conversation with a guy years ago who was one of the best defenders of all time and i told him i thought a player was a great defender because he had done 40 tackles.
He told me he had never done 40 tackles in his life and would be mortally insulted if players ran at him that many times.
I think you'll find the difference between Eddy and Hilder is that no one likes to run at Eddy and no one minds running at Hilder.

How times change. 1 year old ago you would barely find a Knights fan that'd want Hilder, Tuimavave or Edwards out of the side!

Josh - never mind a year ago have a look at forum members best 17 for 2012 prior to round one and see how many didn't have Hilder and Fa'oso in there. When it comes to Richie ask yourself is our go forward good enough to send Richie to the local comp ie did he go bad enough to deserve that. The worst thing people say about him is he can drop a ball well I reckon he's improved a heap in that area in fact he has been offloading as well.

Is it just me or are people only comparing Dan Tolar and Joel Edwards just because there redheads....
I think it's because they are both pluggers.

It'll be interesting to see what the plan is for him if he does re-sign. Still doesn't seem to be a definitive plan, but I hope there is something in there for him.
Funny how people are saying he hasn't done anything/much to justify a new contract, yet it's probably the same argument with some of the players we have bought in for this year also.
