Newcastle go Bird watching

Sorry to be off topic but in reply to roger88s comment,

"I think Hilder has been caught out a bit with the higher standard we are playing.

In round one Hilder 27 minutes from the bench and there were comments the team looked better when Hilder came on. Round 2 he played 74 mins against the Sharks and made 34 tackles(Buderus and Houston 80 mins for 38 & 35). Round 3 against the Broncos he started ordinary out of position at 5/8 but ended up topping the tackle count with 41 and played strong. His reward for that effort was 12 minutes against the Dogs from the bench when he was disgracefully hooked. Dropped for the game against the Storm. 28 minutes for 20 tackles against the EEls and played all of 6 minutes for 8 tackles against the Dragons. It's not rocket science Hilder is not part of Bennetts plan. If given the opportunity to start he's as capable as anyone.

Not many Changes are needed in my opinion

Hilder - Size is major concern

Tuimavave - No good having him if he is in NSW CUP every second week too small for a prop

Taia Only to go to free up $$$ for Bird which will also allow cap space for another prop with Salary cap increase

Faaoso may go to make room for the BIG prop

Majority of the younger guys/ juniors to be retained and groomed under bennett

I was refering to the players player awards he has got

He would easily be a standout with guys like ciraldo Cross ect

But with better coaching training new players it too me has made Hilder not be worth keeping

Yes he is a workhorse, but at 31 close to retiring and other contributors he is more likely not worth keeping

In the words of Gus "No, no, no, no, no!".

its not the fact that were "Lacking 2nd rowers" or not its more the fact were lacking the aggression in the forward pack which is what Bird brings

Yes josh agression is good but means nothing without go forward from your front row, without good props aggression from your edge runners means nothing, u need to lay platform before spreading ball, I see your point but I would have thought our front row is priority!

Fa'aoso and Taia are both staying - Bennett's words, not mine.

Tuimavave too small for the front row? Must be why he's played 136 first grade games and a test match there.

Pretty pathetic to bag Hilder's achievements with the club like that imo. He pretty much split his head in half for us, and deserves a better go them he's been getting.

Birds a lacklustre grub.

I concur.

So you said you werent trying to create something; then you did it anyway.

Then I got lost half-way through when I saw Darrell Eastlake positioned at Wing Attack....

Read it. I said out of curiosity - I named a team I thought would look like next year if we signed Bird and asked everyone else if they thought that was close? That's where the question marks and 'out of curiosity' came in.

I concur.

NOW NOW JAMES!

Hilder yes has put his all in,but to win players players with guys like Ciraldo, Taufua, Cross then to have state of origin and international players around, him would in my opinion take alot of spotlight off how good he is.

examples

HILDER OR THAIDAY

HILDER OR CIRALDO

Can you please tell me why Hilder is not in SOO and Bird is?

Who would you pick?

So Thaiday plays for us now?! Huh?

Last I looked Hilder won his Player's Player and Club Player awards ahead of Gidley, Uate, Houston, Mullen etc ... all of whom are rep players.

He hasn't got much gametime this year, but I don't see why that's an excuse to bag his previous performances for us ... as I said ... pathetic.

A handy forward named Steve Simpson went around in 2010 as well. Let me see Simpson - Bird, Simpson - Bird.

People saying there is no room in the side for a hard worker like Hilder when surrounded by superstars mustn't have been supporters back in 1997 and 2001, when a guy by the name of Bill Peden use to play. There is defenitely a role in the side for Hilder if the coach chooses to use him more then sparingly. Up to the coach to use him correctly, or not at all though.
