Buderus torn between Knights and Rhinos

Man that would look good

1. Boyd
6. Gidley
7. Mullen
9. Buderus
14. Stig

Be up there with the best in the comp. The only downfall is how injury prone Gidley is nowadays. Also Mullen always gets an injury during the year & Buderus at 35 wouldn't be too invincible either.

We dont need this halves rotation next year...if Kurt is going to play in the halves hes going to be there the whole game. We dont need this constant switching because

1. How is Gids and Mullo going to develop their combo when they arent playing 80 minutes together?
2. You can't expect Stig to keep coming off the bench because it will at take him a good 5-10 minutes to get into the game

Stig would be a waste of bench space IMO. Hilder can slot into dummy half when Bedsy needs a break.

But who knows...if we can't get Buderus well Gids > Hooker, Stig > Halves

I would rather have Gids filling in at hooker than Hilder. Hilder could play the whole 80 at lock. I think that'd be the better option in my opinion.

I agree with Josh Hill, it's not like Gidley and Mullen are rookie halves or it's their first season playing together, they'd know what is required. I'd be more fixed on getting the Mullen/Stig combination fine tuned for when Gidley goes to hooker in the 20/30th minute. Hilder is no hooker, he should be playing lock or nothing

Who knows what Bennett will do but I personally would like to see this

Agree with Sammy. Switching Gids around and bringing on Stig is only going to make it hard for combinations to gel next year.

We need Gids at hooker next year, because he is far better in that position, then in the halves, and it will allow Stig to get a shot in FG.

Buderus, or another hooker (not Hilder) is important to come on for short stints as I don't think Gidley should play 80mins while he is getting use to the position. Buderus could be awesome for 40mins or so as he'd be producing quality minutes rather then trying to last the full game, which he may struggle with because of the speed of the game nowadays.

So how are you suppose to fine tune the combo of Mullo/Stig when they are only playing 20-30 minutes a game together?! And if Tahu is getting a bench spot next year...well then Stig aint going to get one.

Its not ideal for all this switching to happen during a game...and especially with injuries it will only make matters worse.

And if Buderus does come, I'd be expecting him to play at least 60 minutes at hooker.

That is actually a very fair point you make there Aidos & Sammyyy although i highly doubt Wayne Bennett will pick Gids at hooker.

Both

1. Boyd
6. Gidley
7. Mullen
9. Gidley
14. Stig

1. Boyd
6. Stig
7. Mullen
9. Gidley
14. Buderus

would work quite well imo.

All the opposition team would have to do is put pressure on Mullen with that side and our kicking game is shot to pieces....Gids cant kick in general play! Stig and Mullen is the only way to make combinations, you just cant swap halves during a game all season.

Not gonna lie the thought of Bedsy back at dummy half for the Knights gives me half a mongrel, but if it means Gidley in the halves permanently then maybe it isn't a great idea.

If Gidley goes to hooker and Buderus plays from the bench - that's great, it would be my first option but I just cannot see Bennett playing Gids at hooker, I hope he does but it's unlikely imo. I agree switching Stig and Gidley around isn't ideal but if as expected Gidley plays in the halves, we can't just leave Stig out. Whatever happens I'm sure it'll be a great success!

I hope he comes back, and maybe a NSW series win to end his Origin career because NSW needs a decent starting hooker.

This.

80 minutes? If by some good fortune everyone is fit next year Hilder is bench at best.
Backrow will be Costigan, Taia, Houston.

Unless he's startig at hooker. But I don't want to contemplate that.

I would play Costigan in the front row but regardless I agree. Hilder can't and won't be playing the full 80 minutes at lock, but I think the biggest reason for that is, which you didn't mention, is Joel Edwards.

He doesn't get good enough go forward to be a front rower IMO and isn't attacking enough to be playing second row on the fringes. I think he's strictly a lock where he can make his impact on the game with his defence and doesn't have the responsibility to set the platform and get the team on the front foot in attack.

Costigan only played front row last year because Dan Hunt was injured and Saints had 27 quality backrowers to step into his place (Creagh, Scott, J Smith, Prior, Young). He's also said he doesn't like playing there.
Don't see it happening.

Not that I agree, but I think Bennett will use Hidler in the same way as Dean Young. Some hooker, some backrow, some bench.

That's just my opinion.

With Snowden and Costigan up front with Fa'aoso and Tuimavave off the bench, I think that's a great front row rotation and will really get us rolling forward and on the front foot for the majority of the game.

I also think with Taia and Houston being 80 minute capable players at second row, and with Hilder and Edwards at lock, we would be better served playing Costigan in the front row. I also like Tahu as a bench second rower as Sa'u and Naiqama deserve to be in the centres IMO.

Too many quality backrowers and we're one short of having the best front row rotation in the league IMO unless you fancy Tolar or Kaufusi there.
