2012 NRL Player Rumours & Signings

I thought Bird already re-signed for 2012 a bit ago? That's why everyone has stopped talking about him coming to the Knights this year or next. I might be wrong?

Looking at who Titans have lost, it's starting to even itself out but saying that, I still can't see how they could afford to upgrade Bird's contract by 250+k..

Isn't the last year off his contract a team option?

So either they can take it and he stays on for another year, or they can decline it and he can hit the open market.

Either way they wouldn't be upgrading his contract then, they would be taking up their team option.

I'm guessing the hold up is whether or not they can fit him under the cap next season.

It's hard to see how they're evening it out.

They've lost:

Anthony Laffranchi (big money)
Nathan Friend (fair money)
Brad Meyers (fair money)
Joesph Tomane (fair pay cheque for a rookie, rising star)
Esi Tonga (peanuts)
Clinton Toopi (peanuts)
Sam Tagataese (peanuts)
Shannon Walker (peanuts)

most on not that much, while they've added these guys to their 2012 roster:

Jamal Idris (massive money)
Nate Myles (big money)
Luke Bailey (big money, vice captain)
Ashley Harrison (big money)
Luke Douglas (big money)
Beau Champion (fair money)
Preston Campbell (a bit of money, long serving player)
Beau Henry (peanuts, probably)

most of those guys are on a fair bit of money.

They'll probably look to get rid of Marshall Chalk & Luke Capewell aswell trying to re-sign the likes of Zillman, Bird & possibly Jordan Rankin since he's one of their 'rising' stars.

It's hard to see the Titans breaking the rules like that since the massive Storm scandal but it does look very suspicious.

Rogers is on the 2011 roster for a start. And how do you know what players are earning? people look at us and say the same thing!

I don't, but i think you can guess! They've signed & re-signed a lot of 'big money' players while most of the players they are getting rid of are 'smaller money' players.

TITANS SIGN IAN SCHUBERT

The Jetstar Gold Coast Titans have signed NRL Salary Cap Auditor Ian Schubert as chief accountant. Schubert will start in this position immediately and has already moved into his beach side mansion. Schubert believes his position as Salary Cap Auditor will ensure he is successful at the Titans.

I read only a few weeks ago that the Titans signed Bird for next to nothing when he came back, now they have to pay him as a rep player. I don't know how correct this is though but it makes sense, they can't keep paying him the same peanuts he was on when he first joined...

And Josh I wasn't saying it looks right but compared to a few weeks ago where they hadn't released anyone I believe its starting to even itself out, remember the players who've been re-signed wont be getting upgraded contracts, if anything a few of them would be getting less. I still think they have to release a few more players for it to start looking more realistic but it's not like they're not losing anyone, thats all I meant.

On KOFM's coverage of Knights Dragons Mark Hughes said Alex McKinnon is a certainty to sign with the Knights, exciting prospect.
