That's the quality player he is.

Played great round 1 against the Tigers up against Chris Lawrence too.

But yeah the majority of posters on this forum are right. We don't need him because he's crap and overrated. The only thing he has going for him is his size, skin colour, and dreadlocks. :rolleyes:

He was teriffic today and strong in attack in Round 1 although he made some poor defensive decisions against the Tigers, he's never going to be worth 400K though.

Interesting. The Dogs must be planning their plan of attack because they know they have a bit of time. I guess a fortnight is also after March 31st so he could be waiting till then heh.

If he keeps it up though $333k will be a justified price IMO.

We offered him $350k and apparently that was waaaay too much. People around here did nothing but bag the guy too, saying he's beyond hopeless in defence and adding he's only rated because he's big, black, and has dreadlocks. Some mozza guy posted that. Ridiculous. I even heard someone say he's worth no more then $200k. Now that's comedy.

I tell you what, if he keeps this form up, which is debatable, he's worth $400k.

No he's not, he still has massive defensive and consistency issues and 1 really good game and 1 ok game doesn't change that much.
To be fair I made those comments preseason after he was average last year and horribly overhyped the year before.

Read the other day Gidley and De Gois have verbally re-signed with us (not saying that means anything these days) but will wait until after the proposal to announce it.

Did some estimated calculations with a mate today and based on our top 17, we should have a fair amount under the cap. (Was basically I said a realistic amount and then he did, we met in the middle)

Same cant be said for his side (Manly) who are all nearly paid over due to their GF win a few years back.

So he only played "ok" against the Tigers last week? Geez you're hard to please. He was up against Lawrence who people in another thread rated better then Idris and IMO Idris was the better of the two hands down. Played really well I thought. Had a great game today too against Inglis who everyone seems to think is one of the best players in the game. Arguably the best centre. A good game against a good centre round 1 and a great game against a great centre round 2 is impressive and speaks volumes about the quality player he is.

Gidley and De Gois?. Gidley will be around the $400k mark no doubt, I think De Gois could be between 200-250k. We prob had a lot of money left over from Buderus so we could afford to lure De Gois over with a bit of overs and Ndaira whos not here but was probably a bit over minimum wage.
Also speciality positions like hookers have a bit of a mark up so its been a fairly good value for money buy when you consider the Sharks bought Hughes, Aiton and Morris over that time to fill the void and were never quite the same in that department.
 
We'll save at least 150k on Gidley, through marquee allowances and long serving player allowances.

Not sure how guys like Paterson, McManus, Mullen, Tolar would go in that department though as they would be approaching 8 years with the club. It says 'graded' football, so no idea if that includes Harrold Matts and SG Ball.
 
i think hilder should be fine at hooker if de gois goes, idris is not great in defence but i think he will get better he is still a rookie, any bloke who looks like an avatar id give him alot of chances! and the bloke doesnt have to play centre i spose we will see what wayne bennett has in mind! lmao wishful but hopeful! haha

Have to take into account the other 8 players who count towards the salary cap too.

I imagine we would have some wriggle room though, otherwise how can you explain the million dollar offers to Snowden and Idris?
 
Looking at our 25, outside Gidley, Mullen and DeGois, I doubt anyone else is over 250k a season.

And I doubt Gidley would be chewing up 600k+ like some other teams have, and wouldnt actually count much towards the cap as he would get the marquee and long serving player allowances.
 
2 opinions here 1 i dont mind if degois goes or stays as im happy with him at hooker but in my opinion we lose nothing with hilder there his attacks just as good and defence is prob better so im happy either way....2 i cant believe that ppl dont want idris (back) hes 20 and allready a power house hes played state of origin (& id like to see the pay checks of the other soo players bet theyre on good cash ) hes a local and hes only going to get better and in the last to games he proved he can mix it with the best he may not be consistant with this sort of form 4 the next ten yrs like lockeyer or johnsy ...but what if he is
 
Through Jamal's recent performances, I would be very pleased if we signed him for under 340k, he has been playing exceptionally well. Anything like the 400k figure getting thrown around is massive overs though.

We would be mad not to resign Degois, his match against Penrith proved that. He wouldn't command a great deal I would imagine. However if the deal somehow backfired and we lose him, I would rather go after a class hooker or move Gidley there fulltime. Nothing against Matty Hilder, but I couldn't see much long term benefit playing him at 9, he is a great fill in though.
