The future Mrs Joey Johns
It's just sad that he won't be involved with the club.
Hang on guys.. Who's coaching Newcastle is it Andrew Johns or Rick Stone??
The whole "halves specialist" coaches have always amused me.. Take Wayne Bennett & Tim Sheens for example two of the most experienced coaches in the competition do you see them wasting $150,000 on fringe coaches coming in to tell their chief playmakers how to play football?
If your the head coach of an NRL side side you should be more then capable of coaching predominately the most important positions within the side.
I dont see much loss in this at all. The only thing that I see is bad from this is that Beau Henry wont have the best halfback teaching him but im sure he will be mature enough that he can learn without him. So I dont see it being that big of a deal.
CLUB legend Andrew Johns walked away from his part-time coaching job with the Newcastle Knights after the club refused his request for a $15,000 pay rise.

The Daily Telegraph has learned the former champion halfback was paid $15,000 by the Knights last season in his role as a skills coach and mentor to the club's young halves - less than half the going rate at rival clubs.
When Johns sought an increase for 2011 to $30,000, the club refused and the deal fell through.
The fallout over the split between the Knights and their most decorated player intensified yesterday following suggestions Johns had turned his back on the club because it had failed to match a reported $150,000 coaching offer from Super 15 franchise Melbourne Rebels.
Johns' manager John Fordham described the $150,000 figure as "pure fantasy" and believed it had been put out to discredit Johns.
He claimed the Melbourne Rebels job had nothing to do with the former champion halfback's decision not to accept Newcastle's offer.
"On the schedule he's on with the Rebels at the moment, which basically is for some pre-season sessions, he'll earn around $10,000 from them for the season. That's the extent of it," Fordham said.
"Where this $150,000 figure that's been reported in Newcastle has come from is anyone's guess. Andrew's work with the Rebels, which is a loose arrangement, had no bearing on the Knights' decision not to re-hire him."
Sources close to the former halfback and at the club have confirmed the deal fell through because the Knights refused to come up with an extra $15,000.
Johns will have specialist coaching roles at Melbourne, Canberra and Manly next season along with the Rebels.
Former Knights coach Michael Hagan was stunned at the club's decision to shun Johns. "It's pretty disappointing. There are obviously still financial pressures at the club," Hagan said.
It really depends doesn't it?
This is professional sport, players and training staff aren't going to accept coconuts are they? Pretty bad call I must say, 15,000 is an awful lot for the average trainer/specialist coach but this is professional sport, 15k isn't too bad a price.
Andrew Johns is a businessman now, although it should be the case we can't expect him to offer his skills for free considering his commitments he has established across Australia. However in my opinion any wage over "a free steak sandwich" is too much for Johns considering his poor record when it comings to mentoring juniors.
Stone and his coaching staff should be more then equipped to develop their halves. However if the "powers at be" are concerned that Johns has departed with the Knights then not only does this show a lack of faith in Stone but the club is in a world of trouble.
This post Johns era should be exactly that.. Post johns.. his interests and loyalties have moved on and so has the club. Beau Henry should be looking forward to being developed and mentored by Rick Stone not Andrew glamor Johns.
no 15,000 on top of the 15,000 he was already getting
still its not that much 4 a club legend
does anyone know wether matty is involved with newy in anyway??
Johns may have been a club legend when he was playing, but since his retirement there's been a few question marks above his head. Definitely not worth paying $30000 for a guy who doesn't seem to be making any contribution. Dureau had to be the worst half in the league ffs, and Dodge was either hot or cold.
I don't think Matty has been involved since he left the club in 2001 my friend
