(NSW Cup) Centurions Discussion 2010 Thread

Ndaira & Dureau good to see getting a try each, great win there by the sounds. You'd hate to fly over there to lose, atleast i would be p*ssed off.

Another win:

The Centurions are now 9th, one spot out of the eight. A few more wins and they will find themselves in the finals. However, if they made the finals, I doubt they will beat Balmain/Canterbury (they are the current top 2, and most likely will be come finals time).

We've already beaten 1st placed Canterbury and third placed Newtown, and only lost by 10 to second placed Balmain.

It's a rapidly improving side, with guys like Adams, Miller, Wyborn, Valiky, Williams, Naiqama and Fawcett all coming on in leaps and bounds.

Just about every game i've seen this year we have been very, very competitive with anyone while the over 20s guys have been on the field, and we fall away terribly when the NYC rejects run on.

Our side can beat anyone if we go into the finals without the kids on the bench and with guys not wanted for firstgrade like Lulia, Ciraldo, Mika instead.

Imagine if the Centurions did a Parramatta and made the grand final - but actually won it :dancing:.

Balmain and Canterbury grand final would be a cracker. A rematch from 2009 (although then the Dogs were called Bankstown City Bulldogs, as part of an allegiance with Sydney City Bulls).

If we go into the finals with;

Fawcett
Naiquama
Williams
Lulia
Harmony Hunt
Wyborn
Dureau
Edwards
Ndaira
Tovo
Vlaikcy
Ciraldo
Miller

Adams
Filipo
Shearer
McMillian

That team can beat anyone in NSW cup if they fire - and since we have a coach who has been in 3 of the last 4 NSW cup GFs, I think they will fire in the big games.

Western Suburbs 26 Central Coast 20 (HT - Western Suburbs 22-6)

1 Kevin Naiqama, 1 Harmony Hunt, 1 Marvin Filipo, 1 Simon Williams Tries;
George Ndaira 2/4 Goals

The Centurions came close to defeating third placed Balmain Ryde Eastwood, going down 28-20.

A fair effort.

A very good effort considering Dureau and Api didn't play, and Corey Vlaciky broke down in the warm up.

Halves were Ndaira and Wyborn with Adams at hooker.

Adams went great and scored our first try (after they scored two soft tries in the early minutes).

Miller was again our best forward. Tovo was alright, but played short minutes.

The best match up was Simon Williams up against a big second rower named Matt Ryan. I thought they were the two best players on the field. Ryan scored a great 70 metre try where he beat Williams then swated off player after player as he ran down the sideline, but for the rest of the game Williams tackled him time after time, then stepped around him twice to score two tries. Williams best game yet IMO, because he was tested by a guy who looks firstgrade standard and won the battle.
We won the second half 14-12, and but for the two soft tries in the opening minutes we would have done them.

Just watched highlights of Wenty v Centurions.

We came out blazing but got run down.

Naiqama's defence is questionable. Reminds me alot like Aku when he first started.

Did have Dureau inside him a few times in defence though.

Gee the level is really bad between NSW Cup and NRL.

'reserve grade' has definitely been neglected...it's pretty clear the NRL aren't interested in it, for shame...

Centurions lost to Shellharbour 35-28 yesterday, ending their season.

Will they be our NSW Cup team next year? Or will we have a team out of Newcastle? Or none at all?

Does anyone know? I would prefer to have a team competing out of Newcastle but as long as there is a NSW Cup team for the club I will be happy.
