2018 halves combination

He may not be the best at SOO level but at club level he is regarded (not saying i agree) as one of the best in the comp.
Its not just on the field you need to think off either. Off the field he gives us another big name we can use to entice players to our club for a bit cheaper and also would help massivly in getting sponsors etc to the club.
Im all for it

No it's not, not for mine.

Brown coming here was all about clearing the decks and putting his plan in to action. That plan was to nurture our local youth and bring in players to support them.

If we get Pearce, or Maloney etc, to me that would be the first real abandonment of that plan. Lamb appears to have a solid future, local junior, ticks the box for Browns plan.

We need to hold our nerve and not knee jerk react to a player hitting the market. We have our plan, stick to it.

Lamb can still develop in reserve grade, if we sign pearce does lamb get a starting gig at any other nrl side? I dont think he would, if we were a top club he would still be plugging away in reserve grade as he should be with us. no top club uses the nrl as a development program.

Can the same argument be used for Watson?

Lamb is a halfback playing above his weight, whereas Watson has much more to offer as a utility.
However, since Watson signed on as the first pick 5/8 it'd be poor form changing that plan without him being on board.

Sure, Watson comes with a premiership ring and has a big future, but I reckon Lamb has earned first shot at nailing down his spot.

I can't see him cracking another NRL side, his best chance is probably to stick around but many players fall into the trap of thinking there's greener pastures elsewhere. You have to wonder though, what is Brown's plan, especially with comments recently that good halfbacks play until they're 35, Pearce only 28. Lamb's pathway becomes clearly blocked.

I made that point somewhere else on here also. If you were Lamb you would have to be thinking hang on, i'm not going to be playing reserve grade for the next 7 years.

There is clearly two camps in this argument. For mine, all this is just happening at a horrible time. I'd like to see lamb and Watson together this year and see how they go. Lamb has earned his shot and it wouldn't surprise me if with the team we have for next season, if Lamb kicked on very nicely and by the end of the year we may not want to entertain another half option.

Now, if Pearce comes in, that shot is all but gone. And there are a lot of assumptions coming in that Pearce is going to just make us hugely better. He may arrive and lose some of his shine, new team, new town, new team mates etc.

We aint going to sign pearce for the rest of his career. If i was knights management meeting with politis next week id be pushing for them to allow us to sign pearce for 3 years (knowing cronk will be there for 2years) with an agreement we release him back to the roosters in the 3rd year. Essentially we get him on loan for 2years and no other club can touch him. Then lamb takes the reigns after that.

Watson was bought as running 5/8 not to steer the team round though. yes lamb is playing above his weight at this stage of his career, all the more reason to bring in a player of pearces calibre for 2years. honestly i think we are long odds at getting him though. But given the chance its a no brainer for me.

if brown gets his extension giving him 3 more years he has to get us in a position to win the comp in that time. Does pearce get us closer than sticking with lamb? Absolutely. how can anyone say stick with lamb and watch him develop, the top teams better their squad when the oppurtunity presents itself and im glad we are being proffesional enough to actually throw our hat in the ring.
like him or hate him pearce in his prime is what we should be aiming for and is 5x the player lamb is. lamb is contracted and can bide his time in reserve grade imo.
5 times the player. I've heard it all now......

Yeah that was a good one.

Anyway, how good is it to be arguing over what is better, bringing in a quality half to replace a quality up and coming half. Vs accepting signings because meh, they will fill a spot in reserves for depth etc.

Put Origin bias aside, he's been a part of many finals series, 3 minor premierships & 2 grand finals for 1 premiership, he doesn't get a run for so long in such a successful side if he's not any good at club level.

Will you guys just stop and take a look at yourselves for just one minute. Playing above his weight? Kidding me.... All good halves should be in grade by 20, 21 and cement there spot. Look at cleary, ash Taylor, nikorima, milford for example. If you want them when they are 24 25 it's too late!

Some mature later sure but premiership winning halves come on much earlier. The thing is with younger halves you need much older heads around them doing the dirty work.

We have a younger team with experience coming. I personally want to stick with what we have and see how it pans out. Not go all guns blazing and win a premiership next year and have no money again for the next 5 years......

I'm not biased. I just don't like the guy. I put him in the same boat as gags.

What a load of crap, if Lamb gets told that's where his starting I'd start busting the clubs arse to let me go.

Guy is already a first grader.

We need a centre and would get Watson in our 17 and allow us to have more coin for prop or 3 so it's logical.

50/50 part of me wants results now, but part of me wants our young spine to grow together.
