I cant see Newcastle going out and spending the 'big bucks' to get a big name coach.

We need someone who knows the system, and knows the players. Hence why a guy like Rick Stone, would be alright. He knows how Smithy gets the best out of his players, so hopefully he can carry on with his work.

Wouldnt mind Rip Taylor either, then we would have the coolest name for a coach , better then the boring old Brian Smith

Well Gus just said on the Roast that he wouldn't coach us (even though we realistically already knew that).

This whole incident has really left a sour taste in my mouth about Gus though. I'd say it's really looking like he played a big role in getting Smith to the Roosters, and then he said on the Footy show that he had known about it for a long time. Then on the Roast he goes onto say that he thinks we'll struggle big time without Smith. Well gee Gus, thank you so much for your possible hand in helping your Chooks at the expense of us.

As long as we dont go after someone inexperianced I think we'll go alright. I know some people are well against it but I honestly wouldnt mind Folkes.

Our season if far from over. What the players need to continue to focus on is playing well, winning and cementing their place in the top 8. That's all that matters now. The coaching issue is one for the Knights administration to resolve.

Kearney is a plonker, if you want a Kiwi Coach Brian Mclennan at Leeds is head and shoulders above Kearney, but you are Newcastle and you are special, my thoughts are that Joey and/or Mathew must be in the mix somewhere, keep it in the family guys.

Folkes is no dud,, he was coaching at the dogs for way to long and needed a change.

There are plenty of experienced coaches out their, premiership winners like Folkes and Lang (although he is involved with souths), also grand finalist Graham Murray. So if its experience they are after then there is plenty on offer. However, i feel they will go down the path of youth (as in inexperience), most likely an assistent coach from here or another team.

I hope we go with Rick Stone as he has been in the system for a while. Seems as if he gets on well with the players too. Look at the great coaches like Smith, Sheens and Bennett, players play for them because they have a genuine care for their players. Lets hope Rick can get a similar relationship going with this group of players.

i would lean towards either of the melbourne assistnt coaches but the main thing is who ever the select they cant allow another big player shake up. i dont think the fans could handle it if next season is the same as 07

Ive heard Rumors Matt Johns And or Stephen Kearney...Also apparently Fox sports news said he was "front runner" for the job...

I've heard that Matt Johns wants to do it apparently... though nothing about Kearney. I've heard more about Melbourne's other assistant coach in Maguire than I have of Kearney. Heard the front runners were he (Maguire) and Rick Stone.

I wouldn't mind having either one of them. Kearney would be a good coach, his been under Wayne Bennett (World Cup) and Craig Bellamy... Can't really see Matt Johns as coach as he never shows his serious side.
