Tyrone Roberts

Brown wants a running half. Buys Watson to fill that role. In the nine games since he came back from injury he's averaged 123m a game with 10 line breaks and 5 tries. Looks like a running half to me.

If one of the golden boys like Lamb or Sione had a run of form like that they'd be anointed the next immortal.

NEWCASTLE WANT TYRONE ROBERTS AS BACK-UP

The Knights have made discreet inquiries about luring Tyrone Roberts back to the club.

Currently playing in the UK Super League with Warrington, Roberts has also been heavily linked to a return to the Gold Coast Titans, the club he left before moving to England.

However, in preparation for the loss of young half Jack Cogger and the out-of-favour Brock Lamb, the Knights have sounded out Roberts about a 2019 return.

Roberts played 97 games for the Knights between 2011 and 2015.

I thought he was playing really well for GC at hooker from the bench. Would be handy to have considering our depth in halves/hooker and not sure how Slade will go in recovery?
 
The main reason we got rid of him was that he is a 200k a year player who was on 600k a year.
Since he left us he has played hooker and fullback at a reasonable standard - so he is now a utility player who would be a very good squad member.
He is a great trainer - always one of our best.
As a backup half/hooker he would be a bargain for 200k, and we know he can settle in Newcastle - he basically grew up here from age 16 and I think his wife is from here.
 
Would be happy to see Tryone as a depth signing that could add some utility value...at the right price. He is no world beater but is a serviceable fill in if we need to be able to cover injuries, including a bench utility role if that hole needed to be filled
 
Definitely wouldn’t hurt in inquiring about his services. With Slade set to miss a length portion of 2019, and Buhrer’s future unknown, he could certainly fill that #14 role. Can cover 1, 6, 7, 9 so if injuries happen, again, he could slot in straight away.
 
Can't understand this price if ok then sign, what about if ok sign at best price we can get, leave the financies to the financial people and let's just worry about the ability, talent and suitability, has anyone any idea what a players worth, isn't he worth it if we need him.

This makes zero sense to me.

1) Why’s it ok to have an opinion of a players ability but not ok to have an opinion of the players worth? It’s pretty much the equivalent of saying “let’s just worry about the financials and let the coaches and recruitment team choose the player”. Both are highly paid professionals.

2) The quality of a signing has a lot to do with the value, so it’s actually quite important and worth discussing. One example would be Woods. He was a terrible signing for Dogs given he was earning nearly $1M per season. On the flip side, he’s a decent signing for Sharks coming off the bench if they’re only paying him a third of that. Same player, same ability, but the quality of the signing weighs heavily towards what he’s being paid by the club.

Whilst ever the game has a salary cap, fans will talk about what players are worth under it. Never going to change.
 
You can argue a players ability, check the stats, watch the games and form opinions and argue them but in most cases we haven't got a clue what a player is worth until they are signed and the cost is depending on the need, we will pay more for the player we need than someone filling a gap.

Yeah I’m a believer of this. I think there is only a handful of players that could command the same money at any club.

What Klemmer is worth to us, is worth different to someone else. In saying that I still think they have to be all Park figures otherwise that’s how you end up in a salary cap mess.
 
Roberts secures NRL deal for 2019

TYRONE Roberts will re-join former club Gold Coast Titans upon leaving The Wire at the end of this season.

Roberts has agreed a two-year deal to return to the club he left to join Wolves ahead of the 2018 campaign.

The half-back confirmed in June that he will take up an option in his Warrington contract to return to Australia 12 months into his three-year deal with the club.

He spent two years with Gold Coast after joining from fellow NRL side Newcastle Knights in 2016, making 38 appearances.

The Wire have already recruited the 27-year-old's replacement, with Canberra playmaker Blake Austin confirmed to be joining on a three-year deal from next year.

Tyrone Roberts is currently playing in the Super League Grand Final. Hasn’t done a lot in attack but he’s been strong defensively.

Update:

He’s had a poor 2nd half and now gone off injured. Not his night.
