Tonga vs Scotland

Good effort on the end by Scotland.

Don't know how the video ref came to the conclusion of the Tongan player throwing it out the back at the end there though. Looked like it was reefed out and then forced down by Fishiahi.

Imo no matter which way he called it, it was the wrong call. The Scottish player imo reefed it out which went forward and then Douglas was the guy Scottish guy above the football but I'm not so sure it was grounded.

At the very least it should of been a scrum 10m out to Tonga imo.

Not taking anything away from Scotland though, they fought hard and deserved to come away with the win after the way they fought back from Tonga's onslaught.

Young Langi let Tonga down big time with his conversion attempts as well as his general onfield play.

World Cup is going great so far. Every team has been in with a chance to win their games so far except for maybe Ireland, I haven't seen that game yet so not sure. Even the games where teams have gotten big leads, the losing side has made a comeback.

Scotland have pulled off an unlikely World Cup victory by beating Tonga 26-24.

SCOTLAND has pulled off a huge Rugby League World Cup upset after securing a 26-24 victory over fancied Tonga with a converted try seven minutes from time.

Tonga looked to have grabbed the win after Willie Manu’s 65th minute try capped off a rousing second-half fightback but Scotland, who led 20-4 at half-time, were not done and fullback Matthew Russell crashed over for his second try of the night to seal the victory.

Tonga opened the scoring after eight minutes when Glen Fisiiahi burst onto a short pass to bag the first four pointer of the match.

Scotland returned fire five minutes later with a brilliant solo effort from Russell. Danny Brough added the extras to put his side in the lead 6-4.

The Bravehearts were impressive in defence with Tonga unable to break their line.

Scotland had no such trouble getting through the Tongan defense as they piled on the points in the first half.

Tries to Ben Fisher and Brett Carter extended Scotland’s lead to a 16-point buffer at the break.

But Tonga made the perfect start to the second half with man of the match Sika Manu barging over in the opening minutes.

A try to Nafe Seluni saw momentum completely shift the way of the Tongan’s.Scotland’s defense appeared to be crumbling as Tonga’s big men rolled forward.

Scotland though took the win when the video referee ruled Russell has grounded the ball. Super League’s ‘Man of Steel’ Brough adds the extras and the Bravehearts seal the upset of the tournament.

Yep another International rugby league thriller !

Loved the game , shocked Tonga's lack of halves and poor displays by there better spine players played out like that.

How fit are Scotland ?

International rugby league surpasses any other type of rep football hands down, what could be if the Island teams are boosted by players that qualify tops for them and are left alone by Aussie and NZ.

This is only round one !
