Toby Winter discussion

Riley Rostron might be the ultimate number 19.
He can genuinely play any spine position and follow any game plan - and even make up plans on the run.
He has played fullback, hooker, running 5/8, but this year he wore the 6 jersey and was clearly the dominant half and game organiser.

last year he was coached by Steve Simpson, who used him like Brian Smith used Kurt Gidley in what he called "rover" - Rostron started the game at fullback, but when players got tired he was moved to hooker in attack and fullback in defence, and he'd start organising the team from dummy half.

I thought the same thing. The footwork on the run back inside followed by the audacious offload that led to the Greg try looked a bit like Herbie.
At the game yesterday with my son who commented that Winter had a real Herbie Farnsworth look about him with his footwork across field.
Winter made it look like he had played many more games than his debut yesterday.
He looks like a real natural centre on both sides of the ball.

Yeah the math on that front has changed totally now hey.

Optimal bench is now something like two props one versatile forward a hooker a half and a 1-5 utility.

I do wonder if Sandon would have been signed if we knew this rule change was coming, as handy as it's been having him.
I think we still would have signed Sandon, POS knew our big weakness apart from prop is depth in the halves, Sharpe and Brown are good but if one goes down than we drop heavily with Gamble being the likely replacement who is a big step down from Sandon attacking wise.

Plus it helps Holbrook knowing he has a guy that can go into the halves that knows exactly his style and systems from the Roosters.

Winter looks like about 20 different Koori outside backs to me - Knights have had plenty like Ash Gordon, Brad Tighe, Timana Tahu, Dane Gagai - all able to effortlessly change direction while running and have great instincts.
Every team has probably had their share of wingers and centres with those traits.
