The Official Super League Thread

St Helens 17 - 16 Warrington. Cracker of a game in absolutely horrible conditions. Pishing down with rain. Last minute drop goal from Sean Long breaks Warrington hearts. Warrington should have won tonight, Saints were lucky. Still, it keeps them on top of Super League.
that is gay! i used to go for st helens before johns moved to warrington :lol:

Huddersfield

What is Huddersfields big secret?:think:
  1. They are opening the gates open this week! (no way a marketing plot)
  2. Some say they have signed Lockyer! (unlikely, his under contract for next season)
  3. Others had said that there moving to Union! (More chance the Knights moving to the afl)
But does anyone have a clue in what it is?
It must be huge to let people in for free & release a media statement (even in oz).

No idea - probably something about their ground. This from The Times......

And the odds from Betunfair are in for Ken Davy's big, big announcement ...

2-1 Some sort of ground development or sporting village for Huddersfield;

10-1 Darren Lockyer to sign for the Giants;

20-1 Ruben Wiki to sign at the age of 43;

100-1 Bill Gates to plough £100 million into the club;

101-1 Gareth Gates to plough £100 into the club;

1,000-1 Oil has been discovered under the Galpharm. Club moving back to Fartown, £1 billion richer;

1,000,000-1 The second coming;

1,000,000,000,000 -1 Giants to win the 2010 Grand Final.

PK is Darren Lockyer going to Huddersfield. The rumours are going around.

On that;

Broncos hope to keep Lockyer home
Wayne Heming | August 17, 2008

INCOMING coach Ivan Henjak would love to see champion Darren Lockyer keep playing for Brisbane for another three seasons and then jump into a coaching role with him.

Two days after ruling out ever playing rugby union and declaring a huge debt to rugby league, Lockyer has been linked with English Super League club Huddersfield when he comes off contract with the Broncos next season.

Henjak was dismissive of the Huddersfield rumours, revealing his desire to see Lockyer launch his coaching career with the Broncos where he's played every one of his 298 games since venturing down from Roma in the 1990s.

"I think it would be a real tragedy if he didn't play here as long as he possibly could," said Henjak.

"I'd love Darren to keep playing for the Broncos in 2010-2011 and then maybe get on the coaching staff.

"I'm sure he'd be a good coach. I think he is thinking along those lines and I think that is what he wants to do.

"It would be a wonderful thing for him to move into that role, especially at this club."

Chief executive Bruno Cullen, who is negotiating with Lockyer and his manager about extending his deal, is well aware the Queensland Reds and others are circling for Karmichael Hunt's signature.

There are real concerns that Brisbane could struggle to keep both Lockyer and Hunt, who's also off contract in 2009.

Henjak is optimistic about keeping both stars depending on a few player movements.

"Darren is very honest bloke. He's very team oriented and he cares a lot about this place," Henjak said.

"There's a lot to play out yet.

"Sam [Thaiday] is off contract, Greg Eastwood's off contract and Dave Taylor is off contract. I don't know what's going to happen with those guys and what kind of money will get freed up."

Lockyer's 298 games is a Broncos record, the loss to the Dragons taking him past Michael Hancock.

wouldn't be surprised if he goes but i dunno if he will with his knee problems and stuff

Well the "announcement" wasn't about Lockyer. Nice PR, but an anti-climax nonetheless. Season tickets for 2009 will be £80 for adults. wow

Wigan poised to pounce as Manly lose interest in Carney
Andrew Webster | August 20, 2008

TROUBLED halfback Todd Carney appears destined to salvage his broken career with Super League powerhouse Wigan - but he has already been linked to a return to the NRL as a possible replacement for Manly captain Matt Orford.

It is understood that Carney is close to finalising a one-year deal to resume playing in England after being cut adrift by the Raiders earlier this month after a string of alcohol-fuelled incidents.

But there is increasing speculation he is already in the Sea Eagles' sights beyond 2009 - although chief executive Grant Mayer denied last night he had discussed any move with Carney's management.

MANLY!!?

ANOTHER Test star has quit the NRL, with Brisbane's Greg Eastwood to take up a three-year deal with world champions Leeds.

The Rhinos are due to confirm this morning, Australian time, they have negotiated a release from the final year of the 21-year-old New Zealand international's Broncos contract.
