The NBA Thread

Yeah, disappointed for Ben in some ways....I honestly think he was a young man who was told he was great by everyone his whole life, and then, when he started to hit injuries and mental health issues, he didn't have the tools to articulate or play his way through. Would love to see a redemption story for him, but I'd imagine that's long odds now.
He had great athleticism (size/speed), great in open court and was able to guard all five positions with his lateral quickness, length, and vertical explosiveness which made him a multi-positional defender capable of locking down perimeter guards and switching onto big men.

I just hate how Philly have had all these stacked teams in the past and team mate after team mate to help Embiid (Butler, Harden, Harris etc) and still blame him for all of it (some of it is okay). He's been long gone and it's still his fault lol.
Kawhi got it done again and who was his best team mate? Siakim? lol, Kyle Lowry? lol

Hopefully Giddey (I know not the most demonstrative bloke) becomes the heart and soul of the Boomers.
Like Mills, he doesn't possess elite physical size or vertical leaping power but Mills still had a great motor and speed as well conditioning. And showed that you can have physical limitations and survive with basketball IQ.

Interesting that Mills and Simmons both had AFL backgrounds that 'toughened' then up a bit.

It was but Butler was considered a top 10-15 player in those prime years. Philly Harden wasn't as good as others but still averaging over 20ppg and a bit of a fleece of a trade for them lol. Harris with his usual 18/8. Normally when you have a mix of those guys you're expected to make it more deeper then the second round. Then there's the Maxey years...

Onto today...Coach Mazzulla has run blitz removing last possession by Detroit in 1st and 2nd quarter. Forcing Detroit to shoot and giving last possession back to Boston. Similar to Thunder coach Daigneault from previous seasons.
Not letting players dribble the ball for last shot. Coaches copying coaches.

The way Boston are using George is far more suited to this stage of his career, lots of curl cuts and movement off the ball. He’s not the same shot creater that he was but he’s still effective two way and if Tatum comes back a better fit than recent Brown.
Seems like George will be doing Tatum role, when Tatum rests. Then just be a secondary player when Tatum on the floor. Just stablise their team. While Boston still has the same players from last season's gap year to do their thing. This time without the rebounding deficit.
He stablises Boston lineups on defense. Making them switch friendly. Big (long) enough to not get destroyed on rebounds.
Offense, over passing because it's a new team and teammates will be the issue. But then again, wide open lane because Boston bombs away from 3.

As for Detroit, they want Ausar Thompson more ballhandling duties. To further his development and make him a threat.
To start the 2nd quarter, it's Jankins and Thompson (with Duren and shooters). And Thompson "chilling" doing things as a second big. Except he's only as tall as a forward. Naturally Duren sees crowded paint as usual.
Surely less Jankins and more Thompson on the ball as the season progress? Surely?

Then Ausar Thompson and Detroit become irritating. Made him the lone big dribbling and Mitchell Robinson just camping in the paint. Dribbling without nothing happening. Quickly pivot because getting eaten on defense due to lack of size.
Bring back Duren and again it is a crowded paint with Thompson not doing anything.
