They didn't want to rush him, and Campbell/Prince worked well last week for them.
Just on Bird... with Laffranchi coming back there really isn't enough room. It looks more and more likely he is on the outer there. When Laffranchi moves on next year Myles will be a straight replacement.

The option for Bird's 2012 contract is in the Titan's favour, so if they want him he has to stay.
That said, they've obviously been on a shopping spree and things must be getting tight cap wise.

We'll be losing about 1.5mil worth of talent this year, Im guessing. Boyd, Snowden and Tahu would be taking up no more than 800-850k? Surely there'd enough for one more big name like Bird and fill the rest of the holes with cheapies and rookies. I'm a big fan of making the best possible top 18 squad and then letting lower ranked players come in when needed and still be playing in a strong side. The team lists you guys are making are incredible, still can't get over the amazing turnaround we're going through, feels so good!
I think it was agreed that the Titans wouldn't make him have another year (although it's only in verbal, not on contract) and they don't really have a lot of room in their cap space either to cater him.

Madman is right, they hadnt signed all these players back then. If they re-sign him now its going to have to be for at least 220k more, how on earth do they have that kind of money

Gidley outplayed Cameron Smith tonight. Destroyed the ruck area, mucked up the QLD defence. It was like he has been playing there all his life. I'm not even being biased about it, he faded right then cut it inside like a madman and made so many right decisions it wasn't funnny. Sure it'll be different in a Newcastle side, but holy crap he was unstoppable tonight.
Why?
He wouldnt have had the same impact, and most likely would have been interchanged halfway through the second half with the game on the line.
