Stadium name

Has a good ring to it, just dont know how I'll be able to keep up, was just getting used to calling it Ausgrid!

If this name sticks, I'd be more then happy.

Your reasons being...

The other names the stadium has had have all been better.

THat and it annoys me when they name things in Newcastle Hunter instead of Newcastle, when Newcastle is a more easible identified, well known place whereas lots of Australians know nothing or next to nothing about the Hunter,

But thats my personal opinion and all

I have to agree with Novo90 to be completely honest.

I would rather have Manly Sea Eagles Stadium than Hunter Stadium.

I wouldn't have minded Delta Electricity buying it out. Delta Stadium.

The new name sounds fine to me.

However Jekk was telling me she drove past recently and saw new signs saying Newcastle International Sports Centre ... its old original name! So who knows what's going on ...

Doesn't sound great to me, it isn't bad though. Hunter Sports Stadium would be better. But i prefer Newy International Sports Centre over both of those!

Can't top Marathon Stadium for mine, however I'm not upset at Hunter Stadium. I'm not a fan of companies sponsoring stadium names (and yes, I'm aware of the irony, given Marathon Tyres sponsored the stadium for many years), so the more Hunter Stadiums, Sydney Football Stadiums, Brookvale Ovals, Stadium Australias, Parramatta Stadiums, ect, we can have, the better (in my opinion).

But anyone from the actual area knows that Newcastle itself is largely irrelevant these days in our day to day life. Heck, the majority of the population of 'Newcastle' as a city is actually incorporating the Lake Macquarie area.

I like Hunter (it's not as if they are changing the Knights to the Hunter Knights or something, it is just a stadium name after all). It servers to include the rest of the region that the Knights/Jets represent.

That wasn't my point, but ok. Sydney itself is largely irrelevent to the vast majority of sydney siders these days, but it doesnt stop places like blacktown, liverpool, penrith or camden being part of sydney. Newcastle as a city incorporates Lake Macquarie because all those surburbs and all that population is part of Newcastle. Lake Macquarie is a lake and nothing more. These's a difference between Newcastle city, city of newcastle and newcastle cbd. And theres a difference between what makes up a city council and what makes up an actual city.

Either way it wasn't my point, the point is most people country wide know of Newcastle, few know of the Hunter, fewer still Lake Macquarie. So if there going to use the name of the area, for national identiblity alone Newcastle makes more sense.

Haha yeah sorry, not sure what I was reading when I read your post. Sleep deprivation ftw!

But yeah I agree with you on that - from a pure national identity thing, Newcastle is more well known.

Maybe this is an effort by those involved to raise the entire regions profile?

I would imagine its called Hunter stadium because its major sponsor is Hunter ports not because its in the hunter but I might be wrong.

The stadium will never been named something that relates to the Knights, as the Jets play there too. Perhaps The Barracks though (just throwing it out there for sh!ts n gigs)? I cant see 'Jets' changing so you'd have to find something that makes sense for both teams.
Maybe not.....considering that's what Club G used to be called.....
