Sione Mata'utia re-signs with the Knights

Don’t know where Sione is going to fit in the back-row. Barnett and Fitzgibbon both faaaaar better options. He’ll only see time there from the bench.
 
Next year I'd put Sione in place of Buhrer on the bench. Way more impact and shorter minutes will be great for his game. No way Buhrer scores the barge over try Sione did on the weekend.
 
Funny to see Levi and Sione pull out their go to move from under 20s against Parra.
In under 20s, and 18s and 16s - if you were within 10 of the line, all you needed to do was get the ball to Sione at speed and no one was going to stop him.
Bargeover tries generally don't work in firstgrade, but Levi and Sione gave it a go and Sione got over the line twice for 1 try and held up once.

I'm pretty sure that was supposed to be his role this year when they were talking about reducing his fatigue levels & workload in the off-season. Brown made it pretty clear that moving him to centre was a last resort if they couldn't find anyone before the season started. Now that Buhrer's place in the team is slipping away, Sione should take his role in 2019.

He could be decent there if he plays 50-60 minutes running hard, just have to make sure he doesn't assume he needs to do bell ringers in defence and leave our line wide open.

With only 4 games last round that skews the odds a bit (only 8 centres to choose from).
Considering how poor the Eels were, that cuts it down to 6, or a 1 in 3 chance.

Either way, it was a much better performance and it'll do his confidence no harm at all :thumbsup:
 
Sack him! What about that Ferguson try? I know it was on the other side of the field but that’s all on Sione.
 
Apparently his contract is pretty much done. I think we should give him a long contract because we will probably get him pretty cheap at the moment. 4yrs at 200k a year sounds good to me.

No way he only gets 200k a year. Pat Mata’utia would probably demand 200k a year.
