Second pre-season trial - Knights Vs Bulldogs - 6:00pm Saturday, 14th February - McDonald Jones Stadium

My trial 2 takes
Only a couple as I don’t want to rate them all

Fletcher Hunt:
Had moments but he is definitely not a NRL fullback.

Smith/Brown:
I think they both showed moments but i would have swapped those sides as Smith played better on the right against the Dragons and Brown has always been a left sided player.

Phoenix Crossland:
Very meh not a threat from dummy half at all meaning the dogs weren’t scared to leave him and they could focus on the others, needs to change that and as of right now Arthur is the better at that.

Greg Marzhew:
Another meh game from him, without his metres he is barely a reserve grader, will never do anything as a team with him as a genuine starter.

Justin Holbrook:
Made horrible choices such as swapping Smith and Brown, didn’t carry Arthur and used Cant as a hooker instead, didn’t seem to know/care about trying to change things.

Jermaine McEwen:
Meh game nothing special did little in attack had some alright defensive moments.

Overall:
Not many played good at all and some had moments, now I don’t think Ponga and or Sharpe make a difference here, to many players doing to little.

I hope this is a case of taking it easy for Vegas but I do hope Holbrook swaps Smith and Brown, I did like moments but again for now I’ll put it down to positions and Vegas, I guess we will see by round 1 where there will be no excuses.
Really surprised that all of the players you've previously had an agenda against happened to be "meh" at best, but our dream halfback Smith's performance is spun as "having his moments" and excuses for why he was bad. He was comfortably the worst player out of all the ones you named.

I do find it funny that even though his side completely dominated ours and he had all the chances in the world to be a flat track bully Lachlan Galvin still managed to be mediocre and get thoroughly outplayed by a career reserve grader in SOS.
He’s Loch Ness monster levels of myth.

Smashed in the forwards, huge error count doesn't matter how many Ferrari's the Knights might have in the back line when that happens.

Was hoping to be top 8 competitive, will be lucky to not go back to back with the spoon if that performance is indicative of where we're at.

PS. Young 1 error, 92m. Marz 1 error, 208 meters. If Sharpe is going to a wing IDK what Holbrook will do there.
That bust he made would of bumped his meters up.

Just got home , after reading all these comments not even going to watch it .🙁Even the reserve grade Titans side looked like the had trained together

Well, that was lacklustre.

Took more positives from opening 20 last week than all of today’s game.

Could be the Dogs and their pressure. Could be that we look disjointed and underdone.

On the plus side, there’s a fair bit of footage to improve on and work with.

Thought Brown looked decent, without being great, but he should be a big improvement to our halves. Smith had a great opportunity today to put his name down as the 7, but I’m not sure he did himself any favours.

I’m not a fan of Cant to 9. With 6 on the bench, there’s no reason not to have Graham or Arthur there. Smith doesn’t seem like a consideration at 9 though.

There’s not really any way to sugar coat not scoring in a trial. Concerning.

Anyway, hopefully just a case of getting back into the swing of things and they knuckle down and fight and play harder when there’s 2 points on the line

Simple play the ball errors, not on passes to nobody, not being alert as a decoy (can't be a good decoy if even you believe you're a decoy), chip chases out of their own 30 on the 2nd when they've barely had the ball....etc.

They're doomed until the mentality of the team changes and the Knights start to value possession.

First half I thought we looked decent, our pack just isn’t going to match it with any of the elite teams. Dogs are a good tough team, with excellent defence. De Courcey let in three tries, we could’ve scored three, plus that bunker call was BS.
Brown was good, but on the right with Smith on the left didn’t work. Least he has a good clearing kick. We’ll be better, and I’m glad they were at least trying things, rather than going into the shell.
Marzew has to be picked, otherwise we’ll never leave our 20.

I'm disappointed with the decision to play Brown on the right and Smith on the left. Can anyone confirm that is what they have been training in pre-season? Hopefully, Hollbrook swaps them around for game 1.
