Salary Cap

Should the NRL increase the Salary Cap to stop players from leaving to the Super League, French Rugby Union and the Super 14?

DISCUSS IT ALL HERE!

They should.

AFL is lucky....they don't have to face these problems and their fans won't turn away from the game due to lack of big name players.

The salary cap must be increased and league will win the fight to save players.

No it shouldn't.... No player should complain about what they get paid, they get more then most people for doing something they love and have fun playing, whereas people have to work crap jobs earn S hit money and find it hard to make ends meet .
If they dont like wat they get paid they should put there feet in someone elses shoes for one day...
If they increase the salary cap the players will just keep wanting more and more money

actually, that is true. go 20 to 30 years back and players weren't on big money and had to have another job. some players seem to say "i am on a million dollar contract, it isn't enough"

but seriously, that comment by NK FAN made me change my opinion just like that

I agree players these days are doing very well with the top players recieving a large chunk of the salary cap!
My concern is the players who are lower in the pecking order and who are now full time professionls and really do not have time to have another occupation.
I am happy the Nrl has educational programs for after football life but maybe more can be done to ensure these guys who throw there bodys on the line everyday at training and on the field have a future and life after football! The top guys have earnt enough to live comfortably after football and good on them if u can get it get it, but it is very worrying when the lower earning players who need to find a job after football and this may be affected by there body and affects from playing the game they love!

I thought passion was worth more then the money, anyways the Salary should stay where it is, Sonny Bill was a thug anyways so at least he is gone :)

yeah passion is but u have to think of yourself sometimes like some of these guys cant run once there career is over therefore employment oppurtnitys will be limited because of injurys and restrictions from playing footy

The only real employment opurtunities are calling the games or joining the footy show.

Exactly and if they arent earning decent money there future looks bleak! some guys get businesses going which is why i think there should be business courses through the nrl etc!

They do receive a lot of money at the moment.

However, the NRL is the premier Rugby comp (of either code) and I think that players deserve more money for playing in it.

Just look how much players get in the premier football league (Premier League), premier aussie rules league and only one (AFL), premier american football league (NFL) etc..

Simple answer NO. Clubs wont survive. If you want to keep supporting the Knights then i suggest there be no major increases in the cap. Minor increases are steadily required though.

Agreed, theyre a bit greedy, they get paid a fair bit of playing footy week in week & even if theyre injured, where as other people work hard for their money & some do jobs they dont like at all.

Maybe some alternations like marquee player or whatever, or players that come through the junior ranks don't get included in the cap.. Clubs should be rewarded for bringing players through the system.

Yeah, thats a good idea i reckon, but where would they get the money for the junior players coming through to pay them without the cap?

Dunno, that's not my problem haha

Nah well I suppose something could be worked out there, like instead of a cap increase overall, clubs could get some money just for players that have played a certain amount of years in the juniors of a club. Or maybe the club's own money? dunno aye
