Sack Adam O’Brien

I can’t remember the media mentioning that other clubs were interested. But I think it’s a bit different with coaches. But I’m more of the belief that no other club was wanting AOB has a head coach.
No one was interested. 10 weeks prior most people had him tipped as the next coach to be sacked.

this thread started in 2022 let that sink in

OB has to understand he and the squad, don't exist in a 1 game bubble.

I posted in the game thread the booing was a bit tough, but, the fans are just fed up with losing. 8 scoreless halves of footy out of 14 rounds.

The comment shouldn't have been those booing don't know much about footy, that same clown has sat there saying how the crowd up here know their footy. It was an idiotic comment in the moment.

He should have said it was disappointing, that he understands the fans are hurting and the club is also, they feel it too. They are busting their gut even if the score line isn't showing it. Young squad, no front rower etc.

💯

Impossible to sum it up better than that.

Now watch us resign him for another 5 years after this.

I'm In 2 minds right now with regards to this win, If It kicks off another win streak this club Is dead In the water because of It.

But at the same time I really want them to win.

It like choosing to have a pirahna bite your nuts off or using a nail gun to secure them to a wall 3 meters above the ground.

Just let the boys play AoB FFS.

Bizarre comment in the press conference, he really doesn't get it. Every person you talk to is disappointed in the way the team plays, not the fact that they lose, it's the way they lose with no fight, no plan 'B'. If they played like they did in the second half and lost no one should be disappointed but when you play like you did in the first half, no one is giving you any credit as a coach, sorry.

Well said, though the thing that erks me most is AOB taking ownership of the second half, as though, not only was that part of his plan, it should've been an obvious and foreseeable eventuation at half time.

He's acting like that 2nd half of football wasn't last seen in 2023 but last round. Ignoring his coaching for the moment, the bloke is insecure and foolish.

Exactly when we were behind 16-12 actually said to my mate if we lose now at least we are playing some footy

I'd love to hear that the players decided to throw AOB's game plan out the window and just play some footy in the second half. That more than anything would sound the death knell for AOB. As they say, lost the dressing sheds. Would be good to know how the second half complete change came about.
With his press conference comments he probably added a fare few more supporters to the sack AOB list.

Yeah that is ****ing disgusting from AOB.
I’m a weirdo, in that I end up supporting the players more than the club. I would never support another team and in certain circumstances my love for the red and blue can make me bitter towards certain players when they choose to leave. But for the most part I’m happy when Watson gets called into origin, I’m happy Barnett got called into origin both players 100% deserve their spots. And when they were here, they always put effort into games. I was ****ing pissed when Lucas was still in the conversation for being selected for NSW and he had one last game to impress and our genius coach plays him in the centres - a position that no longer suits his physical attributes. Same thing when he played Best a few days after one of the most intense origin games in recent memory, best already was in doubt for the origin game (if yall remember there was footage of him struggling to run at training and new rumours every day that he’d failed to train etc.). Best plays and tears his ****ing hamstring and is out for 8 weeks or whatever it was.
Anyone who defends his coaching IQ and general game plan is a lost cause. Our few tries we score come off individual brilliance or desperation plays. Tonight was no exception.
We have Fletcher Sharpe, Bradman Best, Kalyn Ponga, Dylan Lucas, Greg Marzhew, Dane Gagai - the lack of attack cannot be excused. Yes we lack genuine halves, but those players I just named are among the most dynamic attacking players in the comp. There’s an argument to be made that Greg isn’t. To that I say ********. You get him one-on-one with his opposite number 20-30ms out from the try line on the end of a simple backline movement - he scores 9/10.
Lucas would have to be one of the better attacking backrowers in the comp with his committed lines he runs, his speed and agility (on these points I’d back him against any backrower in the comp). The others speak for themselves. It’s simple ****, yet they look like a bunch of talented 16 year olds who are coached by one of the obese dads who “doesn’t watch the footy that much anymore, but i went alright for Dudley magpies under 12s in my day”.
But what is now becoming more evident, is that he’s not even a particular good guy. There were the rumours which I won’t go into but I think we’ve all heard them.. (something about a scene at the races involving a fan). I ignored them, but now going off some of his comments and decisions to allow players to play when they should be made to rest and recover… and tonight’s press conference was that bad, he should honestly apologise this week. If he apologised for shooting down talk of Dylan Brown in a stern manner… well then **** me. The fans who braved the freezing cold on a school/work night to watch a team who have failed to score points in 8 halves or whatever it is, and have lost their last 4 games at home deserve handjobs for being accused of knowing nothing about football - because they expressed frustration at yet another scoreless first half and some soft arse defence. You think booing is bad Adam? I don’t watch the ****ing games live anymore, I check the live scores on nrl.com intermittently until we’ve scored a couple of tries or the game is close, and then I’ll watch the game delayed. I already confessed to not watching last week’s game. And I watched every single game we played when Brown was coaching and we were wooden spooners because then we literally had children playing first grade. We were losing because we were being bashed by men. Now we’re losing because we stick to the same under 8s game plan every week. Apologies for all the cursing

Also, I’m a big believer to admitting when you’re wrong and boy was I wrong. I wish I could quote my post about Fletcher Hunt from another thread so my stupidity is there for us all to laugh at.
I see it now. Fletcher Hunt will absolutely have a solid first grade career. I do think sadly his lack of speed will put a cap on his the heights of his career. I think it’s something teams will learn to exploit (last week from memory looking at the highlights, one of their wingers easily got around on the outside of him only to knock the ball on over the try line). But I dunno, a good coach could help him with strategies to mitigate the issues his lack of speed could bring. But I mean, Jimmy McManus was quite slow (I don’t think as slow as hunt) and he played origin and deservedly so. I see Hunt becoming a very strong runner coming out of trouble as he fills out and gets stronger, a smart and committed defender, and a real threat under the high ball.
So yep, I was completely wrong. Kid can football alright
