Rumour: Knights looking at Maloney

Joe ofahengaue
Agnus Paasi

Albert vete
Pat Vaivai
Zane Tetevano

Young aggressive forwards whom love to hit and run hard..... all we have now are soft kids or soft wastes of space.

We need a dominant half and id chase Raynoalds from Souths and let them chase Cronk.... although id lovecronk and eventip in 50k in tpa lol

what we need to do is pay overs for 1-2 big names. Get Cronk for 1-1.5 mil, Graham for 800k - 1 mil, Offload the likes of Hodko and other deadwood. And then can sign some decent players a bit below their value. TBH i dont think we would need much more then these 2 Mainly depth. If Kostjasyn retires id go rein to cover his spot and still go after SKD but instead of the 400k a yr drop it to 300k a yr due to the potential drug incident.

1 Ponga
2 Ross
3 SKD
4 Gagai
5 Sio/Pete
6 lamb
7 Cronk
8 D.Saifiti
9 Levi
10 Graham
11 Sione
12 Buhrer
13 Barnett
14 Kostjasyn/Rein
15 J.Saifiti
16 Stone
17 Wardle/Starling/Stockwell/

Id be confident of competing for the 8 with that side!

Mate Cronk is on 900k now do u think h would come to newy for 2-300k more? 1.5+ and still be a fight tbh.
Graham is getting 1 mil at the dogs next yr... think he would comehere for less? No chance.... needto offer 1.15mil as ive said since day dot of that rumor.

We have to offer 200k more for a player orthey wont even consider us.

We needto stop the 5 star rating player chase and go for the 3.5 star and offer 5 star money... we have no other option....

Unless we wait it out and still come last in 2020.

Yeah more wishful thinking to get Cronk on 1 mil as its really us or retire atm. Even if we pay 1.2 mil means we should get Graham for close to his value which is 900k. Who wouldnt want to play with the best HB in the world and the top young talent off Ponga. Thats what id hope for anyway

We as fans need to stop hoping and wishing... honestly thats what we have done for everrrrrrr and got nothing in return.

I don't think they have a problem with offering overs for the marquees, in most cases we've been the ones offering the biggest deal on the cap, excluding tpas. But it sounds like we are stopping short at offering overs for players like Asiata. If we land a Graham or Cronk, that may work out for us, if we miss out we'll be left with the Josh Starling dregs again.

The main issue I find here is Brown has offered Gagai 'market value' deal. Souths have trumped us with an above market value deal, and Gagai has taken the money and left. Now explain something to me how do we expect other marquee players to come here for market value when our own marquee player has left?

It's all well and good to say these guys are replaceable but what happens when Sione or Dan Saifiti or Lamb are off contract and someone comes and offers them overs ? Do we just continue to let these guys walk ? I know paying overs for guys is what got us in this mess but it's about paying overs for the right players and not the likes of Randell and Stockwell ......
Good players in good teams are usually ok with less money to continue being in a good environment. Think Taumololo not going to the warriors. I would hate to think we could go back to square one and impulsively offer more just because Souths are. As talented as Gagai is we need to remember that he is only a centre, our money desperately needs to go into our halves and front row stocks.

Maloney would be a godsend right about now.

600k for a superstar rookie, 8-900k for a breaking down test prop, 900k-1mil for a utility half that tries hard, probably a deal to blow everyone out of the park for Cronk if he wants to play on. Do you not think those offers were overs? Clearly they'll pay overs for the players they really want.

The Knights have one fewer competitor for the signature of Cooper Cronk after the NSW Waratahs and ARU ruled out making a play for him. Please please please just 2 years that's all 2 yrs ...

They found a way to build a culture where players were playing for more than money.
Melbourne have managed that too.
Every other side that wins a premiership manage it as well, but 9 out of 10 of them do it by getting players who grew up supporting the side - not buying mercenaries who are playing for money.
It isn't hard - you can't buy a premiership - you have to earn a premiership by building a culture of players who want to win for much more than dollars.
If you have a way to do that that doesn't involve growing our own, you should share it, because every coach and administrator in the game wants to know.

Yea because SBW, Jennings and Maloney all loved the Roosters and weren't mercenaries.

Players follow the money why do you think there are so few 1 club players these days.

You absolutely can buy a premiership if you're one of the 'bigger' clubs. Rooster and South's both bought theirs in recent years.

Newcastle has always had a mostly locally produced side probably because of the fact big name guys don't want to come here. We need a successful nucleus of local talent to drag us off the bottom. And that's exactly what's happening. Yes, we do need to import some talent to give it some polish but the nucleus is there, now they need the experience. I'd take any of these young guys over a blow in like Scott or Boyd. Sure, they had minor success but left us in a mess. Cronk is the man we need, reckon we're still in with a chance.

Well we ain't running out with 3-4 marquee signings either, anyways I've said I what I think so I'll leave the subject there but I will leave the list of targets we've gone after and missed ......

Greg Bird
Dylan Napa
Paul Vaughan
Jack Bird
Dale Finucane
Matt Scott
Matt Prior
Keiran Foran

Now we've also lost Gagai and our other marquee is in reggies, if everyone wants to get their hopes up about Cronk and Graham go ahead. I hope we get them but I'm not holding my breath ......

If Cronk wants to play on then our odds of getting him are better and better (not saying it will happen ) but you never know ...Gould said ....
"Where are Penrith going to get the money to buy Cooper Cronk?"

Speculation has been rife since the 33-year-old's announcement, but the mooted bidding war hasn't ensued with Sydney clubs locking in other playmakers for 2018.

Mitchell Moses will play his first game on Saturday for Parramatta, Kieran Foran has been secured by Canterbury for next season and Josh Reynolds is on his way to the Wests Tigers.

The Sydney Roosters, South Sydney and Manly have settled halves pairings, while Gareth Widdop and Chad Townsend have re-signed at St George Illawarra and Cronulla respectively.

Cronk has also shot down a switch to rugby union.

1 Ponga 4 Ferguson 7 Cronk 8 Graham /Tolman ... These additions would suit imo Graham AND Tolman would be good . For $700,000 plus his Tpa for Gagai I love the guy but Ferguson would cost less and is a better player if its going to cost us that much and more as we have to match the tpa as well then throw the cheque book at Ferguson and offer him 7 or 800,000 we would be better off ....

I wouldn't say Ferguson is a better player, but I think his style would suit our team better than Gags ATM hitting a hole hard and providing a good offload.

Graham and tolman? Share the goodness brother.....
Cronk is a very very very long shot.... infact id say 1.6mil wouldnt be enough to make him come.
