Rugby League World Cup Week 1 match discussion

[Billy]

I see ex Knights juniors Jono Ford, Pride Petersen-Robati and Zane Tetevano are playing for Cook Islands.
I thought Jono Ford retired when Toulouse got promoted to ESL

[Matty James]

Reece Robinson appeared for Lebanon the other day too. Haven’t seen him since 2018.. weird.

[Roundtable]

PNG should have won. I think they are the hardest runners in the comp. Amazing.

Yep after watching the replay PNG really were the better side. With their disallowed try which should have been given, and that last minute fluke of a match winner from Tonga, it should probably have been 24-18 the other way.

Great game though!

From the highlights I saw looked they bombed a couple of tries also.

Yeah, Dan Russell replaced Xavier Coates who injured himself in the final training session ... not to be harsh on Russell, but if Coates was there I think they'd have scored two more tries.

Well, there you go. Good performance by PNG. They will take a lot of confidence. Everyone thinking of Samoa as the fairytale, but at this point, it might be PNG.

All the talk I'm hearing about Samoa is they need to change/overhaul the coaching staff. They have the gun side but have always underperformed for years. Goes to show how important the coaching staff is.

Samoa thought they could replicate what the greatest forward to play the game had done for Tonga

Don’t even come close to Tonga’s level.

This has aged well
