ROUND 3: Knights v Titans @ CBUS Super Stadium

And thus why the calls have been coming for Randal on the bench and a replacement for at least one of Houston/fa'aolongo.
I think we can afford to have one of those guys in the team or on the field at one time but having both and bringing gids up to hooker gives us no impact.
What do you guys reckon about Randal for house or fa'aolongo then having gids shift up to lock (or back row) for 20-30 to tackle and run, with Randal coming into hooker??

If we wanted to run with both Randall and Sione on the bench (I actually can't believe I'm even considering this but it really highlights how ineffective some of our bench members have been) - then I'd be more inclined to bring Randall on at hooker, leave Gidley at fullback, move Sione to centre and push BJ into the back row for a little while.

It's pretty sad we have to put up with it at all.

All coaches have pets I guess.

The good teams have a stable side by not ringing in unnecessary changes, imo with Tariq being avaiable in just two weeks means we should stick by House and Fa'alogo, yes their not great but their better then moving one of our strike weapons into the backrow. Stockwell is playing well and while House offers little with the ball his defence has been fine, he oftens finishes toward the top of the tackle count. If Vai Vai and Tapine get some performances on the board then by all means bring them in but there is nothing wrong with making young forwards earn their stripes.

Here are Houston's stats for the first two games as a average:

68m a game
32 tackles a game
1.5 missed tackles a game
2.5 Penalties a game

There not outstanding but there not demanding for him to be dropped either, Adam Blair made 8m last weekend and is starting for the Broncos so let's not get too carried away with the Houston hate.

He wasn't much chop last week but I thought Houston was pretty solid round 1.

Hoping that Scott gets the duties of taking on Greg Bird this week, and does a job on him like he did JT.

Houston is getting the Ciraldo treatment early on which is obvious. But come round 26 or whatever I do definitely believe our full strength team will have a lot more young blood, all we need is a slow transition of bringing our players in, much like with Bennett with Sims.

TITANS V KNIGHTS

Titans:

Gold Coast expect no changes, with returning trio Beau Falloon, Dave Taylor and Greg Bird impressing with their fitness, despite not training for the last three weeks.

James Roberts (ankle) is a certain starter, having completed most of the week, while Matt White (hamstring) is also right to return.

Caleb Binge (back) and David Hala (knee) won’t be late inclusions and are aiming for next week.

Knights:

Sione Mata’utia (illness) didn’t train on Thursday, but is not in doubt.

Tyler Randell will travel with the team, but expect coach Rick Stone to pull the same last change as last week, with Mata’utia to come onto the bench and Randell to drop off.

Mata’utia will play fullback when he comes on, with Kurt Gidley shifting to hooker to spell Adam Clydesdale.

Date: Sunday March 22

The Knights have won seven of their 12 matches against the Titans, and of the four games the Knights have played at Cbus Super Stadium, they have won three.

Robbie Rochow, 13. Jeremy Smith. Interchange: 14. Tyler Randell, 15 Chris Houston, 16. David Fa'alogo, 17. Jack Stockwell, 18. Sione Mata'utia.

Dave Taylor, 13. Greg Bird. Interchange: 14. Eddy Pettybourne, 15. Matt White, 16. Ryan Simpkins, 17. Kierran Moseley.

Match Analysis:

Director of Football Michael Hagan believes it would serve the Knights well to disregard the Panthers’ heavy defeat of the
Titans last weekend, and instead focus on what happened last year in RiseforAlex Round.

“Preparation will be more around some of the things Dave Taylor did in the game last year against us when he was a real handful,” Hagan says.

“They have a fair bit of speed in their backline… we need to handle their forwards well so that their backs don’t get too much time and space to operate in.”

While it would be easy to assume that the return of Greg Bird, Dave Taylor and Beau Falloon to the Titans’ fold is a bad thing for the Knights, Hagan believes otherwise.

“Probably the fact that their big guns have come back in helps us in terms of our mental preparation, because the last thing you want going into a game is a little bit of complacency,” he explains.

“One of our goals this season is to be more consistent in the way we play and prepare, so I think that helps the players to focus to be honest.”

Concerning the return of the Titans’ big guns, Hagan is hopeful that Kade Snowden can continue his recent good form.

“Snowden can have a real influence on the way we start the game and he was really good up front with Korbin Sims last week," Hagan added.

Meanwhile for Kurt Gidley, he is set to play to play a similar role to the one he played in Townsville.

“I think Kurt will be really happy that he got through 75 minutes last week and hasn’t pulled up sore at all,” Hagan says.

“This week I think he can play a similar role for us, but there’s always something that can change.

“Last week Akuila Uate came off which allowed Sione to go on the right wing, Kurt back to fullback and Clydsdale back to hooker.

“It’s just about managing Kurt and Sione at the moment, and it’s a smart way of bringing both players into the game.”

Where it will be won:
In the pre-match preparation

It is highly probable that the Titans will come out of the gates flying on Sunday evening in a bid to put their last performance behind them.

The Knights will have to address this in their mental preparation if they don’t want to get overwhelmed early on.

“We haven’t actually started that well ourselves in the last two games, so we will have to withstand them early on,” Hagan notes.

Last Word:

"They are a side that is in need of a win,” Jarrod Mullen said during a press conference on Tuesday morning.

Alot of fans aren't giving us much of a chance for this game. You'd think the way we've started the year and the way Titans started the year on and off the field would see many saying we'd get the win. But who knows what a nose full of coke will do for the Titans

I'm in the minority of fans that actually think we will get the win. Whereas last year it was completely opposite.

I'm just hoping we can contain Taylor. He destroyed us last time we played and won the game himself pretty much but our defence has been quite good in the first 2 games. I'm just as unsure about this game as the others. How good would a win be though. Come on boys.

C'mon boys, a few good hits with this new found aggression & the game is ours to lose. I'm 100% confident if we can keep the same attitude, we go 3 from 3

I'd be p*ssed if I was Randell. Not being able to play NRL or NSW Cup for two weeks because no doubt he'll be dropped again.

It's so dumb. Whoever misses out (probably Randell) is just losing match fitness and weakening our NSW Cup side for no reason.

Tia why I liked my plan of dropping a fa'aolongo or house And replacing em with gids so both randel n Sione play

Drop Sione and give Randell a run, he deserves it and Clydesdale needs the help in the key position.

So I caught most of the Cowboys Broncos game last night, from the looks of it, it seems that Scott's hit last week might've broken Thurston's vagina.
