I’ll play devil’s advocate on Best. We do not need him. We need to be better and smarter than this. We can put Sharpe, Hunt or Lucas there. Sully clearly said the offer is all he can offer. Where did the money come from? If this costs us Fletcher or Manu next November I will be beyond ropable.
Can I play devils advocate to your devils advocate……
Your assuming that the now reported $820,000 per year with ratchets is our new offer. For all we know it was POS’ final offer before he left. We just don’t know and the media just makes stuff up.
One thing we do know is with POS negotiations very little info came out until the deal was done
Also with it saying he can go up to around $1 million with rackets, that says to me that Best would get around a 20% increase, an increase of around $164,000, bringing him to around $984,000 after the ratchet. Thats in the same ballpark as the reported Parra offer of $1 million a year. Its sounding like there is a cap on the ratchets, similar to Brown’s deal
For example and using the reported figures;
If the cap goes up 10%, then Best goes up 10%, roughly $82,000 or $902,000 a year
If the cap goes up 20%, then Best goes up 20%, roughly $164,000 or $984,000 a year
If the cap goes up 25%, then Best is capped at 20%, so a win for us
If my assumptions are correct, we want the cap to increase by over 20% and the other over the better for available funds
I am also very concerned about keeping Manuleleua, McEwen and Sharpe. I want to keep all 3 of those guys. They all have a lot of improvement left in them.
Hopefully POS set out a plan to keep all 3 before he left
