Recruitment And Retention Discussion

It'd be hilarious if Niukore has a blinder of a first year here. I wonder how many would criticise his contract then?
Yep, the same people who said the Mooney was a bad signing went quiet by the end of the season after seeing his obvious potential; the ones who said Hunt wasn't a first grader are now wondering why the club hasn't re-signed him long-term yet. IDK why some have to view players as Saints or sinners... give the bloke a go.

Niukore's exact contract value mightn't be public record but the approximate value has been alluded to via comments from people in and around the club. Exact figures were given, they're just not verifiable.

Enough came out of the club at the time for the fans to know that POS first offer was a 2 year deal. Niukore held out and got his 3rd year. The deal was reported as being just shy of what was offered to Barnett by the Broncos.

We can be relatively certain that Niukore is being paid in excess of $500k p.a.
600k is the number I heard/read. I guess 600k is better in 28 if the salary cap has doubled.

600k give or take was the number being bandied about.

Who knows maybe he turns up and has a go. But wow did he ever phone it in for the Wahs this season. A strange thing to do when your team looks like winning its first premiership in the clubs history. And its not like we can pass it off as being the fault of a poor coach / system, Webster seems to improve everyone who plays under him.

But you're right, the damage is prorated to like $350-400k in 2028, which is probably closer to his true value

Some how we need to find a way to resign Manuleleua and McEwen

Extend them both now, don’t wait as their price will keep going up if they keep this form up, especially Manuleleua
Manu played lock tonight. 20 runs 222m apparently. I’m thinking Lucas left edge (didn’t do good on right in origin) and either McKewan or niukore right with the other being an impact prop and Manu at lock.

Re: winter and hunt I reckon winter will be a 10 year right center and hunt will float around in and out of first grade in different positions and move between clubs.

Re: fullback if ponga goes down and we have full squad I reckon sharpe goes to fullback. Smith/brown is good.

You're right he definitely phoned it in the last year or two, but sometimes you see it, a player recaptures form with a change of scenery. He was probably told that he will be playing reserves, which was the right call given how well their entire bench of forwards were going. Not to mention they are all young prospects - Vaimauga, EIT, Stowers-Smith. I think those 3 walk into a majority of starting packs. This was with Ford out for the seaason aswell, he was way down the pecking order.

Tonight was a heavy weight boxer fighting a primary school kid, I'm not reading too much in to it.
On the other hand, Samoa had some very good forwards - Leniu, Molo, Paulo etc - but they were all outplayed by Manuleleua and McEwen, who were clearly the best forwards on the field by a long way.
Having said that, the game against PNG next week will be a better yardstick to measure their progress.
