Recruitment And Retention Discussion

In Toohey's news he says both Qld and NSW were interested in Mel Nonu for under 19s origin, but he was in Melbourne till after the age of 13, so isn't available for either state.
It's a pity, because he has clearly been improving every game all season and playing and training with the best would bring him on even quicker.
He's basically the Fletcher Hunt of 2026 - not in position - but in the way he is a big, athletic guy who is soaking up knowledge of the game like a sponge and getting better and better by the minute.
Strange that he is eligible for Australia but not for a state especially now that tier 1 nation players can play origin. He may need a special case of origin eligibility.

I also note Mel was playing under 19s for Ipswich last year - the same club we have signed Baxter Best from. They probably know each other, being only a year or two apart and elite juniors from the same system. Possibly a future centre/wing combination.

Mel scored 3 tries for Niue in an historic win over Samoa in Pacific under 18s.

Would be because he grew up in Melbourne until he was after 13.

Long term I wonder if State of Origin would ever include WA or Victoria if the game grows big enough

I understand him being excluded under the current rules, more pointing out that he is a special case not currently covered. Billy has pointed out he has represented Niue, maybe he isn't eligible for Australia. But if he spent most of his life here and is, surely he can't be excluded from origin? Eligible for the first state of nsw or qld he registers to play in?

Going off the current rules he had to be in either nsw or Queensland before he was 13 so that would exclude him from origin, but seeing has he lived in Victoria that would still make him eligible for Australia. Probably one of the only cases this happens

O’Sullivan being able to sign KP and Dylan without anyone having a clue shows you how good he is at what he does. By all accounts the story was KP negotiations were months away as were Lucas. I can’t imagine we get to the middle of next season without Sharpey being locked up for a long time. That will be his priority.

Still not wholly convinced Bradman will commit given he may want bigger dollars now he is a father. He dragged the last deal. Was close to joining The Tigers. Happy to be wrong, but the injury history is getting a big concern now for the output.

Bradman is another priority signing. Him, Saf and Sharpe remain as priorities, although I think Sharpe has one more year so can deal with his contract next year I say.

I think with Gags and Friz no rush and see where it all lands end of season. I haven’t seen any games of Toby Winter. But I’ve seen enough of Hunt to feel he will be ready for FG centre spot next year.

I heard Peter O'Sullivan on the Chiming In podcast, a really good listen for anyone that hasn't caught it. He mentioned that Ponga was the one that wanted to get the deal done quickly without it getting out, which is a credit to him. However you can't deny that POS is a sharp operator and he has left clubs better off for being there

what a list of local mixed with signings like brown kp niukore for eg

Brown has been the catalyst for all of this along with the coach. The fact he is only just about to turn 26 is a bit mad really. He will be barely 30 when he hits the mid part of this deal. To put it in context Cronk was 34 when he signed with the Roosters. A whole 8 years from now.
The way his game has evolved since he left the Eels is another blight on that club. To actually allow Moses to dominate the ball at his expense, given Dylan’s ability to play at and through a line, tells you letting one player be alpha at the expense of a more talented player is an actual club choice.
