REAL NRL: Newcastle Local Competition

West defeated Wyong last weekend 20-16 - which could spell the end of Wyong's dash for the semi finals - with 2 minutes to go in the game, Wyong had 6 tackles to steal a win, but a dropped ball on the first tackle ensured the Rosella's took the points. Afamasaga getting better every game and will be a handful come semi final time. Herman,Thurston,Hurrell and Penny - good for the winners, Langford and Moore for the Roos.
This weekend Cessnock v Kurri from 2pm Saturday - www.newcastlerugbyleague.com.au live broadcast - Polglase, Ndaira, Abraham,Peek, Tanner - for Kurri - Riley Brown, Seu Seu, Hlad, and Brendan Worth - players with NRL experience will ensure this is a high quality game..

Cessnock dominated Macquarie pretty much from start to finish, with a easy win on Sunday. If the opposing teams didn't have enough to worry about with Seu Seu, Riley Brown and Sam Wooden to start with, Junior Afu has stepped up a number of gears and had a blinder on the weekend.
Sunday the 19th Kurri v West on www.newcastlerugbyleague.com.au as we see whether any of these 2 teams ar capable of matching it with Cessnock come semi-finals..

West easy winners against Kurri - over 150 points scored by West in First and Reserves to Nil by Kurri. Last game this weekend before semis - Cessnock, West, Maitland assured of top 3 - Maitland and Kurri must win over Lakes and Macquarie respectively to ensure top 5 finish. Should either Maitland or Kurri lose, and South defeat Cessnock - South would move into top 5.
Tune into www.newcastlerugbyleague.com.au listen to Fordo and Butts from 2pm Saturday as South v Cessnock ....

Semi final weekend - South v Maitland on Saturday and West v Macquarie Sunday - broadcast on www.newcastlerugbyleague.com.au starts at 2pm, with First grade kick-off 3pm.. In action over the weekend - Scott Briggs, Gavin Quinn, Simon Williams, Callan Richardson, Daine Laurie etc etc.
For Knights supporters, particularly those with an interest in Toyota Cup - Zac Walsh - half back for West, is a Knight signing for season 2013 and beyond - might be worth a look or listen in for..

Wests scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to win 36-6, will be a massive game next week for them against the Nock. Great crowd at Townson today. Also a pretty nasty injury for Zac Walsh, copped a high shot and went to hospital with suspected bleeding of the brain, he had blood coming out of his mouth as he came off.

Wests lead 16-8 with 25 minutes to go. Go Rosellas!

Cessnock coming home strong.

It was a good close game, a bit disappointed for the Nock because they lost 08, 09 and 10 GF's, and have been very unlucky on many occassions in GFs, and also because Wests win everything else (like both lower grades the last two years), so it'd be nice to see a different team up there. But Cessnock didn't deserve to win, for a team full of good players their attack was pretty much nonexistent apart from a few busts off missed tackles and some nice kicks (all 3 of their tries off kicks). Terrence Seu Seu especially, had a great year and nearly won POTY but didn't do much today, he typified a disorganised Cessnock side. Wests weren't amazing, but they did enough. I've seen them a lot of times this year and whilst this wasn't their best performance, it'll obviously be their most satisfying, and it was good enough to win it on the day. Crowd was typically large and noisy as always, especially when a coalfields team is playing.
