Promising Junior Watch

It will be so hard to decide who gets a firstgrade pre-season this year. If you throw in the other McKay brothers, Cooper Votano, Nonu, Gow, Latu. Bates, Scott, Perkins etc - it's not hard to come up with 20 or more kids we would have given a pre-season to in previous years.
Not to mention POS will bring in a heap of kids he wants to trial.

Telegraph did a list of the top 100 juniors in Australia. Knights on the list are:

#93 Baxter Best
#66 Benji Thompson
#45 Riley Rostron
#35 Kade McKay
#25 Will Manning
#23 Cooper Townsend
#12 Chase Butler
#11 Diesel Hagan
#9 Curtis Mulherin
Are the lengths of these player’s contracts known?

It’s very interesting to see how all this pans out.

Doesn’t specifically say contract lengths on the list, but I think Rostron is the only one not yet signed long-term. Last we heard there was a contract on the table but the manager was dragging his feet.

Heard from somebody the plan is for him to be FB next season.

Nothing announced about his re signing though, so not sure.

Seems a bit of a big deal to lose against PNG… is there an age difference?
The schoolboys are generally 17/18 while the Junior Kumuls are a bit older, but not sure how much older. 18/19 I think, but might be older.

4 that play football and I think 1 who doesn't.
Jermaine - Evah - Mathew - Eli
Matt only played a few games of Ball this year and I think played for Macquarie and in the Koori Knockout. He should play as a hooker or lock in Flegg next year.
Eli should start in either AJ cup or Matts next year.
Thanks, talented family

Interesting time frame.

Are juniors subjected to the same “November 1 the year before” negotiating windows?

I’m very interested to see how locking down our NRL 1, 7 and hopefully our 6, on long term contracts affects these negotiations with our half and fullback prospects.

Winter debuted at 19.
Hunt debuted at 19.

Interesting most of these guys will be 19-21 when contracts expire. So club probably will be in a position to see if they are worthy of a FG position/development deal in 2029 or not over the next 12 months.

It's impossible to know when young players will hit their peak.
Jonah Pezet looked like he could play firstgrade at 16 and he's barely improved since.
On the other hand, Deisal Hagan was very lucky to get a firstgrade pre-season 12 months ago as our 2nd or 3rd best young hooker in Ball, and he thrived from day 1 in pre-season and will play firstgrade very soon.

You just have to roll the dice and see what happens - some can't keep up and some thrive when they start doing full time professional training.
