Pearce to the Dogs ?

Wouldn’t touch Ash Taylor with a ten and a half foot pole.

Player swap to the Tigers for Luke Brooks? That’s more like it.

But I think the club has a lot of confidence in young Hodgson, and if that doesn’t work out, it’s easier to find a good fullback than it is to fill any other spot in the spine.

It's not a straight swap Pearce for Taylor - it's 800 or 900k worth of salary cap for 800 or 900k worth of salary cap - however we choose to spend it.

Am thinking that Clifford is a better 6 than 7 so IF we lose Pearce for 2022 or later we might be better looking or developing a 7.
I know many have Ponga going to 6 in a year or two but I would like to see him play f/b fully fit for now and until his next contract extension. Hodgson hasn’t shown enough at this stage to be our No1 so let him develop his game in reserves for a while longer.
No matter how well we go in semi’s we should make sure we have our best spine injury free and raring to go, suspect 3 of the 4 are carrying injuries that are restricting them

If the idea is to play,
Ponga 6
Clifford 7
I still think Clifford would really benefit from playing a year (2022) along side Pearce in the halves to develop his game.

Hodgson probably needs more game time to develop too.

We've signed Pearce for 2022 on a reduced deal, let's keep him.

I actually agree with this. Hopefully we can do this while also upgrading the back row/filling the void Connor is going to leave when he goes. Whether it’s finding the right player at lock, or finding a new edge back rower and moving Barnett to 13.

At this stage we’re hoping someone gets an early release unfortunately.

Yeah one more year with Pearce is ideal, more experience with Clifford and let him gel with the group more before having to lead them around and if a Ponga move is on the cards, it gives Hodgeson another year and maybe some first grade exp with Ponga on origin duties.

Pearce will shortly be 33 years old... I'd like to have him here on a cheap deal to help mentor other players etc but we really should start looking to our long term halves combo...

Yeah these were the premiership prime time years if we were going to win off the back of Pearce. Unless we can miraculously improve out of sight next year, I think the Pearce days are slowly passing which is sad. Pearce & Ponga were our best players in a long time. Not saying we should get rid of him now, but we need to start looking at what's next.

Jr is a winner, and a good on field leader it shows in our results unfortunately his body on the line style of play has caught up with him, you can see what he wants to do but his legs just cant get him their anymore

probably needs to swallow some humble pie and just settle into a role where he controls the team, and gets to his kick, much the same way Cooper Cronk did to finish up with the Roosters

the attack needs to revolve around Cliff, Ponga and Best, they need early ball as often as possible

We don't need Pearce getting to his kick. Clifford should be doing the vast majority of kicking, he is miles and miles better than Pearce at it.

Other than his attitude and commitment to winning a game of footy, Pearce doesn't offer a lot.
